Draco Malfoy exhaled slowly as he finished the last of the paperwork from his latest case. He leaned back in his chair, pushing away the stack of parchment in front of him, relishing the feeling of accomplishment and justice served. He was an Auror now—his true calling after years of resentment and being taught to be spiteful and entitled due to his father's influence. His eyes scanned the office he worked out of, taking in all the accomplishments he never thought would have been possible given his upbringing. Doing this job gave him a chance to finally do something good with his life instead of following in his father's footsteps. He couldn't help feeling a sense of satisfaction knowing he was helping make a difference in the Wizarding world. His childhood had been full of hatred and prejudice towards other families who weren't as lucky or as privileged as his own; so, to be able to put that to use for something good felt like vindication for all the wrongdoings Draco had been forced into while growing up.
As Draco grew older and spent more time away from his father's hate, he was finally able to question everything he had been taught by the man he foolishly idolized. It wasn't until he met Harry Potter at Hogwarts, that he slowly began to see what his father had taught him was pure bollocks. Instead of being his own person though, he continued to live for his father, bullying and hating Potter, Potter's mates and everyone else. On the outside, he was an exact copy of his prejudiced, evil, hateful father. On the inside though, he was just a scared child, desperately hoping that someone, perhaps, Harry, would save him... but no one did. Thankfully, he wasn't alone in all of this, he did have two mates throughout his entire childhood, mates who truly cared about him and he cared about too, Pansy Parkinson and Blaise Zambini.
After the war ended, he could finally breathe, his father had been sent to Azkaban where he belonged, with the other Death Eaters, Voldemort had been defeated thanks to Harry, and peace had returned to the Wizarding World again. Things weren't instantly better for Draco, Pansy, and Blaise though, there were a lot of people who were outraged that the trio and Draco's beloved mother, Narcissa, weren't sent to Azkaban too and made sure that everyone knew it. People would yell at them, try to attack them, they were treated as outcasts and the press had their fun too at their expense, constantly writing about them, stories that weren't even true. Then a year after the war, Potter had shown up alone unexpectedly at the manor to talk to them. He had stayed for hours talking to them, during their conversation, apologies and forgiveness were given and that conversation was the start of a new beginning and life for the four Slytherins.
After the conversation between Harry and the Slytherins, a bond began to form between them, not only did he forgive them, but he also spoke up for them when people tried to bring them down, even if it meant putting his own reputation on the line. He would talk to everyone about his conversations with Draco, Pansy, Narcissa, and Blaise, showing them that they were growing and changing into better people who now wanted to help others instead of just looking out for themselves.
Harry's mates also slowly began to warm up to Draco, Pansy, Narcissa, and Blaise. Eventually, they all sat down together with Harry at his house one night where more apologies were given and received. They slowly over time forgave the Slytherins and all of them became close. Hermione was especially instrumental in helping everyone get along and understand each other better. They also joined Harry in being supporters of the Slytherins, stopping people from talking rubbish about them.
All four Slytherins were grateful for their new friendship and support, but Draco was especially moved by this gesture. He had never expected anyone to forgive them for what they had done before, especially the things he had done- even though it wasn't completely his fault because of how he had been raised. The four of them were finally able to properly start over with new beginnings thanks to Harry Potter and his mate's acceptance and support. Life moved on and things got better for the four of them, but despite the passing of time, there were still stories written about Draco only, and the four Slytherins were still met with some prejudice, but it wasn't very often now. Draco took full advantage of his new start and became an Auror, working with both Harry and Ron as his partners. He worked his ass off and took pride in his job, he was damn good at it, and everyone knew it.
