The trust between us

chapter 12 The missing people

They were in Caiyi Town the next morning. Lan Yi was holding the report and reading the missing names and their families to the company's hearing

Then everyone collectively agreed to go house by house to investigate, questioning the missing people's families. Hopefully, they will use the trail left behind by the perpetrator to find the missing people alongside find Jingyi

The first house they went to, the woman was wailing her husband was the one missing, so Wei Ying tried to calm her down.

"Aunty you have to slow down we will try to bring your husband back but first we need to ask a couple of questions" his gaze on her soft, his voice was soothing, his smile was comforting.

The woman finally stopped her screaming and clean her tears, she offered Wei Wuxian a sit opposite her and the rest stood behind him Lan Zhan was the closest to him more like a body guard his face still as stoic as always his gaze cold.

"How many children do you guys have?" He started his interrogation.

"2 boys , they are little 7 and 8  years old," she uttered in a whimper.

"How was your husband behaving before you noticed he was missing?" he asked, inqustively turning his gaze to Lan Haoyu and Sizhui to take note of her answers.

"W....ell he......hee,"  she stated  stuttering at the sentences she was still sobbing and cleaning the tears that fell from her face.

"It okay," his voice consoling take your time. I am listening, and he reached to wipe her tears, and then he took her hands and squeezed them, reassuring her that she wasn't alone.

She looked at Wei Ying, and she knew they had come to help she felt more at ease and continued.

"He is a good father and a loving husband" her voice steady, she wasn't sobbing anymore "He always took care of us provided for his children always looking out for anything that would make them unhappy and he loved me so much until a month ago" she close her eyes, taking deep breath.

Lan Sizhui and Lan Haoyu were looking at her and listening with keen interests their fingers  across their note books scribbling down all she was saying.

Lan Yi stood quietly listening, attentively observing the woman.

Staring at the woman scrutinising all her body language and facial expressions.

Wei Ying squeezed the woman's hands again, urging her to continue.

"Well, his behaviour changed, he kept telling me that i don't love him anymore, that his children were scared of him because he hurt them, and they don't care about him anymore. He kept talking like he was crazy, saying things that weren't real her tone was sad.

"One time I met the boys crying and he was standing there not moving, he was looking at his hands and he kept repeating the phrase.  I stabbed him, I stabbed him and I went to shake him and he pushed me away saying he might hurt me" and he left the house and didn't come back for two days, when he came back he didn't speak to me or the children for a week" her eyebrows were scrunched

"Then one night when we were about to sleep, he told me I was cheating on him
and all these years of our marriage was fake, I married him only for his money, and then he accused me of the children not being his. " Tears fell from her eyes. She squeezed Wei Wuxian's hand harder. Clearly, she was in pain.

"And then I tried to tell him that it isn't true and I asked him if he has forgotten our years of marriage and he called me a liar and didn't speak to me again" she hesitated and then she continued

"The next two days he avoided me and the children He stopped providing for us I relied on my little business for money and one afternoon it got worse that when I became scared of him" her tears fell uncontrollably.

"I came  back one evening and I saw him hitting the boys, with his recent behaviour the boys were scared of him and they ran away whenever they saw him. I intervene and pushed him away and he pushed me against the wall and slapped me and kept calling me names he told me he saw me with another man kissing and being intimate and I had gone to go the market so I didn't understand where the Accusations came from."

"He said  he will leave me for lieing to him and deceiving him all these years and then he slammed me against the wall and before he left completely he told me he hated me and since then I hadn't seen him since then."

Then she broke down and was crying saying she wished she could have made him see the truth it was like he was hallucinating things that weren't real and she wished she could have stopped him  from leaving she brought Wei Ying’s hands to her eyes And mouth screaming  into them

Wei Ying stood up and held her close, rubbing her back affectionately telling her it would be all right they would find him he looked at Lan Zhan, hoping that they would actually be able to.

The children came out when they heard their mum screaming they went to hold her with tears in their eyes seeing their mum in pain Wei Ying let go of her to let her children hold her he went over to Lan Zhan’s side they look at each other and shared a knowing look.

"Please, young masters please help find my husband. I miss him. His children miss him. Please help me find him, please." she kept crying, and her children were wiping her tears crying with her.

"It okay we will do our best to find him if you have more information or you remember anything else you can send it to cloud reccess it will help us a lot with the investigation" Wei Ying had a sad look he felt pain for the woman who have been forced to separate from her husband he imagined how he would feel if Lan Zhan has started acting strangely and saying he hated him. He would feel like his world was over, so he understood her pain, and he resolved in his heart to find the missing people he will try his utmost best.

They left the woman's house her name was Li, meaning pretty Sizhui recorded her account as Wei Wuxian asked  for her name.

They went to the other missing people's families, and they were all similar in the accounts they gave. Wei Ying noted that the missing people just left their family behind because they thought they were hated by them, they were hallucinating things that where not true and kept accusing people falsely for things that weren't true, it was like they world they lived in was different from every one else.

Wei Ying concluded that they were manipulated and the illusion spell was  cast for them to see the hatred their familiy members inflicted on them and that was what caused the missing people to feel un loved and hated and it drew them to live their homes behind believing that they weren't wanted anymore.

Some of them Wei Ying noted was that they acted crazy and violent when they believed that their loved ones were lieing while some where suicidal  threatening their families and saying they will end their lives since they weren't wanted anymore and since that day they all left their homes and never came back

one thing that was common among the 50 people was that they all left on the same day and since then they had gone missing, they all believed their family and friends were liers and hated them and in turn it caused them to hate their love ones back.

No one had seen them no one had heard from them how odd Wei Ying thought the person they were dealing with was very powerful, smart and manipulative he feared for everyone's mind and what the person had planned to do with those 50 people and if more where going to go missing.

This master mind was clearly feasting on their resentment he could feel it, and he knew that was going to be helpful in finding them.

The last person they met had been the odd one out and this wasn't Wei Ying's thought it was Lan Zhan's thought the person was to clingy to his husband he couldn't yet place his fingers on what was odd about him but the was something odd.
