Raine's POV
We took off down the hall leaving our parents behind. The four of us burst out of the doors and were met with a chaotic scene. There were dragons made of bones, smoking black and leaving streaks across the sky attacking dragons and people left and right.
There were screams and dragon wails. I leaped forward and took a kid by their waist hoisting them up and running back towards the doors. I passed her off to one of the maids standing in shock by the door. They disappeared inside.
Then I saw him. The dragon that started this all. He was hovering in place, no dragons were able to get to him. Faaris came to meet us and I jumped on her back. I opened a link to every dragon In the vicinity and quickly gave directions as I flew straight for him.
I didn't noticed I had already started glowing.
The battle started to become less chaotic as dragons started to listen and form up a little. Suddenly the battle seemed to tip in our favor. I had done this before, it all came back. Abelard joined me as we flew towards the dragon. He was looking around desperately trying to get ahold of things.
"Stop!" I commanded everyone. The air stilled and we hovered in front of the huge dragon. His red eyes glinted in hatred and from here he stunk of rot and death. All that was heard for a moment were wingbeats as we flew until he groaned,
"You brats will not get in my way forever. I know your weakness. It's been written in stone brat, you'll die! I've seen it." He snarled the final sentence and for just a moment my confidence waivered.
"You better be ready, I will be back." He roared, spit and blood flying before with powerful thrusts of his wings he retreated with the rest of his dragons.
We flew back down and I got off of Faaris, angry and upset. Mother came over, she seemed angry,
"What were you thinking?! You leave the fighting to the generals. They were trained for years! For most of their lives to fight in battle. Do not ever put yourselves in danger like that again!"
I took a step back. It's not like we had a choice. Who else could command every dragon at once? Who culd turn everyone invisible so there werent as many casualties? Abelard spoke up,
"I know we're young. But we've been training for the past two years to defeat this dragon. You don't understand Mother, this is something we don't have a choice in. The Sorceress chose us."
She took in a deep breath, eyes closing, before she shook her head.
"I do not care what my mother told you, you will have no part in this any more." I remembered the look on my face before I crumpled to the ground. The look of respect the Great guardian had on his face when I knew what I needed to do. I remember the Sorceresses cold hand on my shoulder as we watched the inevitable happen.
"Mother... I love you. I know you are scared. We are too. But this is not your decision to make. This is outside of your- and our power. It's inevitable."
Jordan took my hand, nodding to me. Abelard placed his hand on my shoulder, comforting and warm. Caleb cracked a small smile, enouraging and soft. We knew what was going to happen. Our parents didn't need to know.
Metin placed her hand on my mothers shoulder and whispered,
"Listen to your children, they are wiser now, they have seen things we have not." My mother all but sobbed,
"That's why they must stay here! I can protect them! Please baby's, please let me just protect you." I felt my soul shatter just a bit at her cracked words,
