I hit something hard. I looked up to see Jordan smiling down at me.
"Didn't think you were gonna fall forever did you?" I leaned up and grabbed his collar, bringing him down to connect our lips. I kissed him for only a moment but that was enough. He chuckled,
"I love you too." Got to get back out there. We have the battle to win." I nodded to him and Faaris flew up close. I turned back briefly,
"Stay safe Jordan. Please." He smiled sadly and nodded,
"You too." I looked away and jumped onto Faaris's back just as we had to explode away from each other to narrowly miss a bone dragon. We flew up and took out dragons on our way. Our parents were ferocious. They clawed and bit and swung dragons away into oblivion. I realized that with the rune we could no longer be invisible. One of our advantages suddenly gone.
I took a deep breath and started to glow. Within moments Abelard also started to glow. We both dove forward into the throng of battling dragons. I suddenly met with mother, we stopped and hovered together for a moment. She smiled,
"We made it! The sorceress, my mother! She told us we needed to trust her and that for your destiny to unfurl we needed to go to you." I stopped, frozen, understanding washing over me. This was supposed to happen, for me to.. I was going to die soon. I shook myself out of my daze and smiled,
"I'm glad you're here Mother, I love you." She smiled down at me and I felt warmth wash over me as our eyes connected. Everything was going to be okay. Just like Faaris said it would.
"I love you too my darling." I wanted to say more but we had to seperate to dodge another hurtling dragon. I attacked multiple bone dragons and threw them to the ground, their wings breaking easily.
I stopped to look around. We seemed to be winning... the number of bone dragons significantly decreased. I spotted Jordan and for a sickening moment I realized he was up against the LArge dragon. The dragon that had been manipulating him for years. They were fighting, yelling at each other. I felt something drop in my stomach. Faaris was ahead of me as she bolted towards them. Just as Jordan was nocked from Rainclouds back. He was hit by a flying dragon and knocked away. We dove for him. We were nearing the ground when I got up and pushed off of Faaris. I flew and hit jordan, we spun for a moment before we hit water. My trajectory had been perfect.
I spluttered coming up. Jordan was in my arms. Faaris dragged us out the rest of the way and I rolled him over onto his back. I tried pushing on his chest but nothing seemed to be working, that is until he coughed suddenly and threw up the remaining water. His eyes shot open and he groaned.
"Am I dead?" I rolled my eyes and shook my head. That was way too close. He had almost not made it.
"No you're not dead. But I could kill you for being so reckless." Come on, we still have a battle to win." We got up and we mounted our dragons. We looked up at the battle and then the ground. There were bones everywhere and too many dragons. Dead. Too many riders too. So much bloodshed. All for a grudge.
I bared my teeth at the sky and we took off. I went straight for the Dragon. When I reached him he spoke in a deep ragged way. He smelled even worse than before. Death smelled strong on his body. His teeth and eyes looking rotten.
"You will die!" He lunged at us and faaris dove out of the way. I flung my sword out and cut his leg. He screached in pain and turned to scrape his claws down Faaris's tail. She roared in pain and we flew out of the way. We continued trading blows. I could feel the glow around me getting stronger and I cried out, screaming bloody murder at the dragon. He snarled back.
Fiinally I was able to connect my sword with his chest. He let out a hideous scream and the skin around the sword started to boil. He clawed out in pain and I watched horriffied as it connected with Faaris's wing.
I watched as the dragon fell, still screaming in agony, and we followed him. Faaris tried to stop us but her wing ripped more. All she could do was slow us down before we hit the ground in one crumpled heap. I screamed as I scrabbled from underneath Faaris. She was dead weight. I screamed again and with strength I never knew I had I shifted her and got up, rolling her over.
"Faaris no!" I screamed again, my skin felt like it was on fire. My insides were ice cold at the same time. I felt like passing out and screaming at the same time.
Aradace roared above me, Briggan and Arian were not far behind. I held faaris's head and she opened her eyes, looking at me,
"Faaris, you have to be okay. You can't leave me! You- you can't leave me." She let out a long sigh and shifted her weight weakly. She didn't have the strength to reply as her eyes once again closed.
I remembered the tear drops. I ripped the bags apart to find it. I saw it but it had been cracked. No! there was only a few drops left. I felt hot tears sting my eyes as I took what was left. I held faaris close.
"Faaris, please, open your mouth. You have to swallow this." She tried opening her eyes and managed to crack her head slightly. I placed the rest of the tears on her tongue and she closed her mouth, swallowing. I widened my eyes, waiting. Whispering to Faaris how much I loved her.
I pushed into her mind all the memories we had together. All the times we cuddled close at night. How we used to play. all the good times we've had. She seemed to smile almost before she took in one more deep breath and stilled.
I couldn't see as tears poured down my face. I wailed, an earth shattering noise. I held Faaris close, burying my head into her soft scales. She was so warm still.
Arian nudged her face and tried waking her up. My heart broke for him. Aradace roared a long broken sound. Briggan joined her as they mourned their child.
Abelard embraced me, holding me tightly. He shook. How could this have happened? I was supposed to die, not Faaris. Not my Dragon. Not my sweet Faaris. I couldn't protect her. I stood up and looked around. Where was he?! Where was that dragon.
When I spotted him I gasped. What was that thing?
