The Darkest Dragons

CHP. 9 "Terrible Situation"

Abelard's P.O.V

Once I had made everyone invisible I could still faintly see them, but i mainly watched and shot arrow after arrow. We were winning. I saw a darkness dragon getting a bit too close but a steel dragon quickly took him out, sadly the darkness dragon took him with it. I made sure everyone was doing the right formations. I made sure Raine was okay too. I saw a few more dragons reapear and fall, I growled and right before we sent for reinforcements two more darkness dragons came towards us, I threw my sword, which appeared as it left my hand, at one of the darkness dragons while a sky dragon took the other one down. The battle was happening so fast but it all stopped because suddenly their was a searing pain in my stomach, I lost all concentration and the dragons reappeared. I slowly looked down at my stomach and winced as I saw a sword sticking out, it was about half way in. I held in a scream and tears started to fall quickly. I felt my strength leaving as I grabbed the sword. I tried to pull it out but I couldn't, I wasn't strong enough. I couldn't die now, I needed to do so much more! Raine beside me screamed and I slowly looked at her seeing her try to get to me but the strength in my body was lost and I felt myself fall, Arian roared and tried to grab me but I was hit by another dragon fighting. I was launched away by it's tail faintly feeling the sting from where it's tail connected with my legs. I fell and fell, until I hit something hard, it was moving, I looked up to see Caleb, he never looked so beautiful. He had a cut above his eye and he was pretty bruised up, his sky dragon seemed to be alright but he had a few cuts on his side and neck.  He was yelling something and looking at me but I couldn't hear him. Suddenly he slapped my face a few times and it all came rushing in on me, it was raining now and I could feel a terrible sensation in my stomach. I could hear dragons fighting, but I could also hear Caleb, he said "Abelard, you have to stay with me, focus on me okay? We need to get you to a healer." he sounded amazing and I closed my eyes for a moment but when I wanted to see Caleb again but I couldn't open my eyes, they were so heavy, The darkness felt good so I just relaxed myself, maybe I could just sleep awhile... 

Caleb's P.O.V

I was fighting with two darkness dragons when I heard Raine scream. I looked up and saw she was trying to get to Abelard, I gasped as I saw him fall, he had a sword sticking out of him, tears rushed down my face but I wiped them away focusing, I saw Arian trying to reach Abelard but he wouldn't make it. I flew towards Abelard and right as I thought we would miss him we caught him. I smiled and quickly frowned, I started to panic a little bit but I told my dragon to fly towards a medic. I grabbed Abelard's face and tried to wake him up, I got louder and louder till I was yelling. I hit his cheek a few times before he finally responded, he looked at me and I looked down at him I said "Abelard, you have to stay with me, focus on me okay? We need to get you to a healer." He smiled and slowly nodded, but he closed his eyes and I felt him relax, I started to scream at him but when I felt his chest his heartbeat was faint. I panicked and when we landed my a healer they helped me get him quickly and they immediately set to work, they were working their magic on him and when I looked back up, I saw Raine facing Stryker and I looked back at Abelard and said to him, "Abelard, you need to wake up. Your sister needs your help!" suddenly the healers said "Hes alright now, he should wake up ready to go in a few seconds." I nodded and knelt next to him, suddenly his beautiful eyes opened and I hugged him tightly. He groaned but stood up wincing and shouted to Arian. He looked back at me and hugged me, he whispered " Thank you, I am in your debt forever," I smiled and he backed away and jumped off the platform, I leaned over to see him land on Arian before he flew, as quick as lightning, to join Raine.

Raine's P.O.V

I had been giving orders when all of our dragons re-appeared, I was confused before it dawned on me that something was wrong with Abelard, I looked over to see him clutching a sword that was sticking out of him. I screamed and he looked at me with horror and fear and I reached out as I  watched him fall. I tried top reach him but a huge dragon stood in my way, he blocked my view of Abelard, and I screamed his name again. I looked back up at the dragon and to it's dragon rider and I growled in anger. It was Stryker, yet it wasn't, he looked... different. This stryker had oddly red eyes. That didn't matter now though. He said in a childish voice  "OH, I'm sorry, I accidentally let that sword slip! I'll be more careful next time!" his voice quickly changed to menacing when he said "Too bad their won't be a next time, this is what happens to others when they get under my feet. You ruined all my plans, My father will never be proud unless I kill you and gain hold of every dragon!" Something within me snapped, it might have been because of the hateful words, or Abelard falling, or all the death happening around me, but I snapped. I grinned at him and said in a voice that terrified even me. "I'm sorry, I don't care about you, or your father, or your little redemption situation, yoU ALMOST KILLED MY BROTHER AND YOU WILL NOT BE LEAVING THIS BATTLE IN ONE PIECE! I don't care who you are, you have been harming dragons, forcefully breeding them, forcing them to do whatever you want! You have done some seriously wrong things and you. will. die. for them, I might not kill you, my brother might not kill you, our dragons might not kill you, but you will die, alone, with your fathers awful disapproval." Stryker stared at me in obvious discomfort and fear and I swear steam was coming off me, I looked around to see everyone staring at me. I looked down to see myself on fire, but not regular fire, golden fire. I was steaming and when I looked at Faaris she was still black but she had grown, she was now huge her eyes was now a glowing purple, she had smoke coming off her and out of her mouth. I looked to Stryker and he said "How- but- you... it can't be, this isn't possible!" I smiled and said "It doesn't matter how strong you are or how old you are, I am determined to do the right thing and to put you in your place, and nothing will stop me." I looked to my left to see Abelard join me, I looked to him and when he made eye contact with me he suddenly sparked and started to glow with a dark gold fire. We looked back at Stryker and said in unison "You will not win!" suddenly we started fighting, I didn't have to give orders at all. Dragons fought dragons and their riders clashed, Abelard and I faced Stryker and he set his face and let out a battle cry, his dragon flew towards us and we clashed together, swords ringing and claws scraping scales. The world slowed down and me and Abelard were matching blow for blow. We beat Stryker back and back cutting him and his dragon until he, panicking, called out "RETREAT!" He looked at me for a long time while his dragons flew off, long enough for me to meet his wide eyes which were back to normal. He looked terrified. I didn't understand it... he looked so lost and it was like a slap to the face. He fell back and we let him go, we watched as he flew away with his darkness dragons, never turning away from me, I could have sworn I saw a glint of tears. I shook my head and smiled and looked over at Abelard, he smiled too and I jumped over to Arian and hugged him, I then felt the affects of the battle and cried out between sobs "I...Thought I..lost you!" He hugged me just as tightly and said "Yeah, I thought I was a goner for sure. Thank goodness Caleb saved me. I will tell you all about it when we get back down. I nodded and jumped back towards Faaris, she was going on about how cool that had been, she asked what had happened to us, but I honestly had no clue. We landed and were immediately surrounded by people and dragons. I smiled and they cheered. Skylar and Nut stepped forward and everyone grew silent Skylar said "Raine and Abelard, You have won us the battle, we have an advantage now! We will celebrate and in the morning we will rest for the day!" we all cheered and I looked to see my team. I smiled at Luna and Ryan, and I hugged Caleb, he said "Raine, I was so scared when I saw Abelard fall, I caught him but I almost lost him... I was so, so scared..." I smiled and hugged him tighter, I said "It's okay, we got him, he's alive, we will be good from now on." he pulled back and said "How did you do that, you were on fire, and you were glowing Gold, and Faaris was smoking and her eyes glowed. It was scary. And then when Abelard reached you he started glowing too!" I shook my head and said "I don't know how I did it. It just happened, when I heard from Stryker that he put the sword in Abelard's side I kind of just snapped I guess. Ryan nodded and hugged me, he whispered "I am just glad you two are okay, tomorrow we can train but again, it's your day off." I nodded to him and then turned to Luna, she said "I am so glad that we were the ones to train you. You have come so far and I am glad to call you a friend, and a partner in battle." I nodded and said "I am so glad you were the ones to train us. I wouldn't want anyone else." we turned away from each other and I walked over to Abelard people and dragons alike parting for us, he was all bloody and he still had a rather large cut in his side from where the healers couldn't heal him all the way. I said "Come on, we need to get you some stitches and clean you up." He looked at me but did a double take and said "Are you kidding me? Raine! You covered in blood, we need to get YOU cleaned up to see whats wrong." As he said that I felt pain everywhere, I felt a lot of cuts and my head got really dizzy. I gasped lowly and stumbled, I looked at Abelard and said "I'm Okay, it's-it's not my bloo.." I felt my eyes roll into my head and I stumbled hard again. I saw Abelard panic before I saw nothing at all. 

Abelards P.O.V

I wasn't fast enough​ to catch Raine but her guard, Ryan was, he knelt down and held her. I knelt down and looked at Raine, she had blood running down her face still and she had a lot of stains on her armor and clothes. Ryan stood and held Raine in his arms, He looked down at her like Father would do when he was holding Raine while she was sleeping. He then got really serious and looked around he then whistled and out of no-where a gigantic sky dragon landed next to us. Ryan got on and said "My room has medic kits, I know the field so I can fix her up." I nodded and we got on his dragon. I told Faaris and Arian to follow us and we took off. As we flew I looked over his dragon, His dragon was absolutely huge, probably a few feet bigger than Nut. He was very powerful and flew quickly. We made it to a rather large building and his dragon stopped outside of it and put his wing down so we could slide off. Ryan made sure Raine was alright before running into the building. There were a few rooms but we went straight to the back, Ryan turned on a couple lights to reveal a white room. it had a bed in it but that was all. It must have been a additional room. He laid Raine down and reached into a closet to pull out two medic kits. he then said to me. "I hope you don't mind, but I have to take her armor and some of her clothes off..." he looked embarrassed and I nodded. He sighed and began working. He took her armor of gently and laid it on the ground. I hovered on the other side watching. He finally folded her shirt up to reveal a big gash on her abdomen that came up to her shoulder. Ryan began working quickly and I checked her pulse, It was still there. I watched as he smeared a kind of ointment onto the wound, Raine sighed and winced. Ryan winced himself at her pain but he kept working. He took off her pants to see that she had on shorts beneath them. we both sighed in relief and saw that she had a few cuts up her leg from talons. he spread a different cream against them and wrapped her leg up in a cloth. he secured it with tape. we then moved to her head, he cleaned her head up and the wound seemed to be that an arrow had skimmed her head, it left a little bloody red train across her forehead. Ryan blinked and put the same stuff he put on her leg, onto her head. Raine flinched and moaned in pain. She was still unconscious but i knew she would be okay. My side suddenly flared and I gasped in pain, I took my arm away from my stomach to reveal a lot of blood. Ryan, looked at me with wide eyes and as he wrapped Raine's head I explained "I... was fighting dragons... got stabbed in... the stomach.. didn't heal all.. the way." I gasped in between words, my breathing growing heavy from blood loss. Once Ryan was done with Raine, he got me a chair that leaned back and he took off my armor, he pulled up my shirt to reveal a nasty cut that was oozing out blood. It had torn even more when I was fighting Stryker. I held back a scream as Ryan put the needle through to make the first stitch. I gasped and panted until he had made 7 stitches. He put a cold wash-rag over my head and put some ointment onto my wound, I moaned in pain and he wrapped it up. I quickly forgot my pain though when I heard Raine. She gasped and whimpered. Ryan was at her side immediately and she whimpered out "Water?" He gladly got her a glass of water and finally Ryan spoke "Hey, Raine, your going to sleep here tonight alright?" Your dragon can come in if you like, you need to get some sleep though and I will see you in the morning." She nodded and took a drink, she said in a clear voice then "Thank you, I wish I wasn't such a burden..." Ryan smiled and said "I had a wife and daughter once, she was a beautiful child like you, you guys look a lot alike. She craved adventure just like you and one day, my wife told me she would take her on and adventure, they were going to find the secret treasure...They never made it back. I went to go find them to tell them to come back for dinner when I found them, My wife was being held by two men while they threatened to kill my daughter. My wife said something and a man killed her. He then, stomped over to my little girl and before I could do anything... He stabbed her. but her didn't kill her, he watched with sick happiness and she attempted to crawl to her mother. he laughed and they finally walked away. I held my girl as she died. and as I carried them back I vowed to never let anything happen to anyone I loved again. So i learned about medicine and joined the army ranks, quickly becoming a general and then Skylar's right hand man. So Raine, you have never been a burden." she had tears running down her face, she nodded not being able to say anything and Ryan said "Now, come on, you need to sleep... You have a big day of healing and resting tomorrow." Raine looked up at him and nodded, getting comfortable before falling asleep, a minute later Faaris walked in and curled up beside Raine. I smiled before falling asleep too. dreaming of being back with our own mother and Father.
