Chapter 21: Haunting Part 1

Oswald laid in bed tossing and turning unable to sleep but Edward slept peacefully right next to him. He sighed and sat up in bed then he got out of bed put on his robe and slippers then stepped out of the room. Oswald went and saw in the parlor and poured himself a glass of scotch. Suddenly Daniel walked in. "Hey Oswald." Stated Daniel as he walked in.
"Ah and what brings you home so late?" Asked Oswald as Daniel laughed.
"Some of the boys wanted to go out for a drink and I quickly learned if I drop the name Penguin I not only don't get carded but I also get free drinks so that is fun." Said Daniel as he stumbled a little and sat on the couch.
"Well I am glad that my infamy through Gotham can get you things you want." Stated Oswald as he sipped his glass of scotch.
"Why are you up so late?" Asked Daniel as he took off his jacket and laid it over the arm of the couch.
"I couldn't sleep." Said Oswald as Daniel nodded.
"I get that but I have a little secret to a great night's sleep." Said Daniel as Oswald looked at him.
"Oh really?" Questioned Oswald as Daniel fished into his chest pocket of his jacket and pulled out a joint and a lighter.
"Two little puffs of this and I sleep like a baby." Said Daniel as he then blinked. "Why did I just tell you that?" Asked Daniel as Oswald pointed at the joint.
"It appears that you have already partaken in it." Stated Oswald as Daniel looked at the burnt end of the joint.
"Are you mad?" Asked Daniel as he hung his head looking like a guilty dog or a child who had disobeyed and though Oswald wasn't thrilled with Daniel's behavior but he was just glad that Daniel still held some sort of respect for him.
"No, I'm not mad Daniel." Stated Oswald as he sipped from his glass.
"Great because I really couldn't handle you being mad at me." Muttered Daniel as Oswald suddenly realized Daniel had no verbal filter at the moment so if Oswald asked him something he was going to be completely honest and probably wasn't going to remember this the next morning so he had to be strategic with his questions.
"Why not?" Asked Oswald as Daniel shook his head.
"Everytime I make you mad at me I feel like such a failure! All I ever wanted was to be like you! You're respected and feared and you used to be just like me, weak and treated like a nobody but now you run this city! I pray that if I prove myself to you, you'll leave the whole criminal empire to me." Said Daniel as he sighed. "Wow that got depressing real quick, I'm sorry." Said Daniel as Oswald smiled.
"No, it's alright Daniel. Thank you. Daniel, why do you hate Edward so much?" Asked Oswald as that was a question he desperately wanted the answer too.
"Honestly it's so stupid but I just can't help but hold onto this feeling that festers inside me." Muttered Daniel in his drunken tone though he was dancing around the subject like he was scared and Oswald had to know why.
"Please Daniel just tell me the reason." Begged Oswald as Daniel leaned close to him.
"The monsters tell me he's not trustworthy." Said Daniel as Oswald looked at him confused.
"What monsters?" Asked Oswald as Daniel started to look a little paranoid.
"The monsters that hide in the dark. When I was a kid I didn't understand what they wanted from I was just scared of them but then when I got older and Dad started getting more frustrated with me they got louder and more aggressive. They said that if Dad really loved me he would've believed me! He would've done something when I told the first time but no! He said go bed! He said it's just my eyes playing tricks on me! He said it was all in my head! Bastard!" He hissed as he leaned back into the couch.
"So these monsters tell you not to trust Ed because he didn't get rid of the monsters when you were little?" Asked Oswald as Daniel nodded. "Now one more thing Daniel, why are you attracted to Joker's daughter?" Asked Oswald as Daniel laughed.
"Sarah. She's great. She's intelligent more intelligent than me. She's sweet and for whatever reason she doesn't care if I'm a criminal or not! She loves me for who I am." Said Daniel with a stupid grin on his face.
"Thank you Daniel. That was all I needed to hear." Stated Oswald as he stood but as he passed by Daniel the boy grabbed his arm.
"So you're not gonna hurt her?" Asked Daniel as Oswald paused.
"Of course not why would you think that?" Asked Oswald as he stopped and stood there looking concerned.
"Well Joker hurt me because he thought Sarah and I had sex but we haven't ever! I don't know where he got that idea but the point is that Joker hurt me and I know you're a firm believer in eye for eye, or figuratively at least. So I thought you were gonna hurt her." Said Daniel drunkenly as Oswald put his hand over Daniel's.
"Daniel, Joker will pay for what he did to you but he will not pay through his daughter because I am certain she saved your life, I don't know how but I know she did." Said Oswald as he sighed.
"Now I'm going back to bed and suggest you also make your way up to bed." Stated Oswald as he went upstairs. He went back to his room and laid in bed. Edward rolled over and opened his eyes.
"What time is it?" Asked Edward as he yawned.
"Three in the morning." Stated Oswald as he looked over at Edward and smiled.
"What?" Asked Edward as he smiled too.
"I love you so much Edward Nygma, I hope you know that." Said Oswald softly as Edward sat up just a bit.
"Of course, and I hope you know Oswald Cobblepot that I adore you." Said Edward with a smile as he kissed Oswald's lips.
"I've known that since the day we met." Said Oswald as he held the side of Edward's face.
"Alright now let's go to sleep, Ozzie." Said Edward as Oswald paused.
"What did you just call me?" Asked Oswald as Edward laughed.
"Sorry but sometimes that's what I call you in my head." Said Edward as he smiled.
"No it's fine, I like it." Said Oswald as he rolled over and faced Edward.
"Good cause I might slip up again." Said Edward with a grin as Edward held Oswald close to him and Oswald finally felt calm enough to sleep.

Later on in the day Edward woke up but Oswald was still asleep so Edward let his husband sleep in for a bit. Edward went downstairs to make himself some coffee. He walked through the parlor and saw Daniel passed out on the couch. He walked past him and into the kitchen. He started making some coffee when he heard the floor boards creak behind him. He turned and saw Oswald standing in the doorway. "Morning." Said Edward softly as he smiled at Oswald.
"Morning Ed." Said Oswald as Edward held out his hand and Oswald took it walking over him.
"I miss our alone time." Said Edward as he rubbed his thumbs on the back of Oswald's hands.
"I know but I'm a very busy man and it takes a lot to keep my empire a float." Said Oswald as Edward sighed.
"I know, but I miss the days when it was just me and you." Said Edward as he looked at him softly.
"I miss it too Edward." Said Oswald softly as he suddenly felt Edward's lips pressed against the back of his hand.
"I love you so much Oswald." Said Edward with a soft gentle tone as he held Oswald's hands close to his chest.
"I love you too Ed." Said Oswald as he put his palms against Edward's chest. He ran his hands up over Ed's shoulders and stepped close to him. "We are alone now." Suggested Oswald as Edward grinned then kissed Oswald gently. Edward grabbed Oswald's hand and led him to one the downstairs offices that were never really used. Oswald locked the door behind them and they locked themselves away for longer than they expected.

Suddenly Oswald's phone started to go off on the table while they were in the hands of themselves. "Ed...my phone..." Said Oswald through gasps of breath.
"Oh come on! Oswald, I'm almost there!" Begged Edward through gasps as Oswald rolled his eyes and while still being plowed grabbed his phone from the table and answered.
"Hello?" Asked Oswald as he tried hard not to moan as Ed was still plowing him. "What?! Ed stop it!" He barked as Edward growled and pulled out. "Say again Jim?" Asked Oswald as he listened to Jim Gordon talk to him. "Alright, I'll be there in a minute." Said Oswald as he hung up.
"That, better have been good or I swear I'm murdering Jim in his sleep!" Barked Edward as he was buttoning his pants.
"Jim has two of my best men in lock up and they're demanding to see me." Said Oswald as he got dressed and Edward didn't seem pleased with the answer he gave him.
"That's it I'm murdering Jim!" Barked Ed as Oswald sighed and held the sides of Edward's face.
"If that were possible, we would've done it thirty years ago." Said Oswald as he kissed Edward softly almost like he was proving a point. "Alright, I'll be back in 20 so just try to lose all your drive by the time I get back." Said Oswald as Edward crossed his arms like he was throwing a temper tantrum.
"I'll try." Muttered Edward as Oswald then slipped on his shoes and started on his way out he saw Daniel sitting on the couch with his head in his hands.
"You play dirty Oswald!" Groaned Daniel as he sounded in pain. Oswald walked passed him and patted the boy's shoulder.
"Wouldn't be the Penguin if I didn't." Said Oswald as he walked out.

After Oswald got back he noticed Daniel was gone and Ed wasn't where he left him. Oswald went upstairs to get fully dressed when he walked into the bedroom he and Ed often shared he saw Edward laying in bed like he had been waiting for Oswald but he was asleep. Oswald noticed Edward's glasses were still on so Oswald walked over to Ed and slid the glasses off of his face but suddenly Edward woke and grabbed Oswald's wrist. "Oh, Oswald." Said Edward as he let go.
"I didn't mean to be gone for so long." Said Oswald as he sat next to Edward and handed him back his glasses. Edward slid them on his face and yawned.
"No it's fine Oswald." Said Edward as he sat up.
"So how was it being left alone with Daniel for a couple hours?" Asked Oswald as he didn't often leave them alone together but when he did it always ended badly.
"Well it was quiet for a while and then Daniel just said he was leaving, I asked him where he was going and he just said bite me." Said Edward as Oswald sighed.
"Last night he was incredibly drunk and he told me why he hates you to much, he even admitted it was stupid and petty I just think that was the alcohol talking though." Said Oswald as Edward seemed to perk up.
"What did he say?" Asked Edward as Oswald thought about.
"He rambled something about monsters he was seeing and said you refused to get rid of them when he was little." Said Oswald as Edward thought about it.
"Hm." Hummed Edward as Oswald sighed.
"Ed, do you think there might be something wrong Daniel?" Asked Oswald as Edward didn't like that phrasing at all.
"There is nothing wrong with him!" Hissed Edward in a cruel tone.
"No Ed, I didn't mean it like that." Said Oswald as Ed huffed.
"Then what did you mean?" Barked Edward as Oswald sighed.
"He really believes in these monsters like they're just normal for him, now I'm suggesting sending him to Arkham or something like that! But maybe he should talk to someone." Said Oswald as Edward stood.
"We are not putting him in therapy!" Said Edward sternly as he didn't look at Oswald.
"Ed I didn't mean to offend I just thought it would help him." Said Oswald as Edward sighed.
"It's ok...I just don't like thinking that there is anything wrong with him. I don't like thinking that he's anything like me!" Said Edward as he sat back down to Oswald.
"Ed maybe we should just talk to him, if we suggest the idea maybe he won't disagree." Said Oswald as Edward sighed.
