Short 7 - The Case of the Missing Romance Novels!

This takes place before poisoning Shuichi we'll just say 😭

Third person POV:

Shuichi was spending some time in his lab with Kaede reading a mystery novel together when he looked to his bookshelf and noticed empty spaces. The two looked into it only to find majority of his very few romance novels had seemed to disappear!

It doesn't take a detective to figure out somebody must've been taking them!

Shuichi and Kaede began the search for the novels throughout the entire school. But there was no way the two would be able to cover the whole school! They explored what they could but soon decided it would be better to interview their classmates!

It didn't take long for their first lead, Maki told the two she had been spotting a male figure sneak into his lab every now and then.

Shuichi and Kaede then began to question every male classmate of theirs. Nothing new was learned but the two couldn't find Kaito anywhere!

The two split up in search for the astronaut. Shuichi was finally able to find him, he was reading a book in a secluded area. Although he wasn't able to get close enough to see the book, he was almost certain it was one of his romance novels.

He gave a call to Kaede, she came running over when the two began to have an on-purpose extremely loud conversation.

"Someone has been stealing my romance novels...but I just can't figure out who it is.." Shuichi lied into their convo.

"Well I can assure you it's not me!" Kaede exclaimed

"Yeah I figured..." Shuichi rubbed the back of his neck with an awkward chuckle before checking if Kaito was still there. But Kaito was gone, and he was seen running off somewhere!

Shuichi and Kaede were able to chase him down. The two questioned the astrounaut, he completely denied it! Claiming he had no interest in the romance genre and that he had no reason to read them.

No matter how much they interrogated him he wouldn't budge. Both Shuichi and Kaede gave up on the investigation for the day. But Shuichi continued it at training that night.

Kaito had taken off his jacket for the exercise, after the first few sit-ups he left to go use the bathroom. Shuichi took this opportunity to begin searching for one of his novels in his jacket. Maki immediately stopped him and began to question the detective's actions.

After Shuichi explained the situation, Maki reluctantly let him search for the novel in Kaito's jacket.

And there it was, one of his missing novels! A romance one to which Kaito  had previously explained he had no reason to have.

Shuichi and Maki waited for the astronaut to return. Once he had arrived Shuichi held up the book to Kaito's face, "No reason to read them huh? Kaito, why do you have one of my romance novels?"

Kaito immediately broke out in a sweat, "I didn't put that there! Uhm- I don't read those! T-Training's over! Gotta go-!" Kaito glanced at Maki before running off.

Maki helped Shuichi track down the astronaut! The two harshly interrogated him until he had finally confessed to taking all of his missing romance novels!

The training trio all made their way to Kaito's dorm where he showed them where he had hid them all. Shuichi put his hand on Kaito's shoulder, "Kaito I don't mind you taking them. I just don't understand why you didn't just ask for them.." Kaito sighed, glancing over at Maki once again, "Well, now that I say it out loud it sounds stupid. But I thought it'd be weird for the Luminary of the Stars to be reading romance novels in his free time...Seems pretty out of character for me so...I didn't want to ask for them. Sorry man, I'll make sure to ask next time!"

Kaito didn't want to admit that he didn't want Maki to know he was reading romance. He thought it would make himself seem 'unmanly' to her. But in fact Maki thought it was quite cute the astronaut didn't want her to know, seeming as she could easily tell his true intention!

But with that, the case closed!

AN:This was just a random little story I wanted to write once the idea came to me! The next chapter won't be too long from now!
