Maki's POV:

I woke up today, got up as usual. And walked to the dining hall with Kaito as per usual, and as per usual he still acted as if all was okay. But, how am I to judge? I do it all the time.

I don't know, what am I expecting anyway? Him to automatically be free to feel like he can talk about all of his life burdens with me out of the blue? That would be hypocritical, it sure took me a while to open up to him. But, is it just me? I feel he's maybe not saying things verbally, but instead talking to me with his actions. Like for example, this entire breakfast, he won't let go of my hand.

His hand is so tightly around mine, I make him feel safe. Is that it? Does he feel warm and comfortable around me too..? No, no, stop it Maki. We agreed we weren't going to do this love thing again. I am not in love with him, and he could never love someone like me. So stop considering it.

Despite my thoughts, my body still yearned for his presence no matter what. His hand on mine just made me a blushing and silent mess the entire breakfast. It felt so nice, it made me feel like in a sense I somehow made him feel the way I feel around him. Safe and comfortable to do whatever. His in his actions at least, mine is more the opposite. I want to just talk to him all I can. I could never do physical touch in any way to convey feelings, I'd fail immediately for sure. My body isn't very good at handling it just yet.

"Right Harukawa..? Harukawa....Harukawa!!!" Akamatsu literally waved her hand in front of my face to snap me back to reality. "Hm? Oh yes, you're right." The red on my face increased from embarrassment, I have no idea what she just said. What did I agree to? Her jaw dropped, oh dear. "What?! I was kidding, you actually agree???" She looked almost offended, I messed up.

"No no no, I-I don't even know what you said I was in thought-" Akamatsu began to burst out laughing, "I'm kidding Harukawa, I just wanted to get your attention because you've looked deep in thought all lunch! Well that and oddly....red?" I exhaled loudly, thank goodness I didn't do something offending or anything. She's been hanging around Saihara way too much, her sudden skill of reading people is alarming.

"Just thinking, had a bit of a late night." I half-lied, it was kind of late but that didn't bother me. After it all Kaito and I just relaxed and stargazed for a while before I guess I fell asleep. But I woke up in my room so I assume Kaito took me there. "Yeah I'll bet you did, training run longer then usual?" Akamatsu smiled innocently, little did she know.

"Yeah it did! It's no problem though, the more work the better you know? Physically and mentally!" Kaito spoke with a grin as per usual, I couldn't help but stare as he did. His expressions are just so lively, he's so...

No.

"Of course!" Akamatsu agreed still with that smile. Turning to Saihara and beginning to chatter on about who knows what to him.

Kaito squeezed my hand reassuringly, I looked to him expectantly but he just continued to eat in peace.

Breakfast ended soon enough, as did the rest of the day. And Kaito took every opportunity he could to hold my hand or have small talk. It was nice, and I'm relieved he seems to be feeling better at least.

After I finished my homework for the day I went to training with Saihara and Kaito which we went through normally before parting ways. And after showering, I flopped onto my bed and lay there. Closing my eyes and waiting for sleep to come.

...

It never came.

A knocking on my door sent me straight to the front door of the dorm, where I was greeted by an exhausted familiar astronaut. "Kaito..? It's 1 in the morning, what're you doing here so late?" I asked immediately, rubbing my eyes to make sure this wasn't some dream or something. "It's not like you were getting any sleep were you?" Kaito read me like a book, keeping a still expression. "...No. I can't sleep." I admitted with a sigh, wondering how he could've guessed so.
