Chapter Eighteen

I woke up to intense screaming outside my room. I jumped up, threw my legs off the side of the bed and ran out the door.

Everyone is gathered around Max "can you hear me?!" Steve is yelling in her face, Dustin has his hands on her shoulders shaking her every few seconds and screaming "Max!" Nancy, Robin and Eddie are just staring in disbelief.

I push past Robin to get to Steve where I yell "what's going on?!" And everyone ignores me, I just look to Max who's eyes look like they've been rolled to the back of her head, and she's not moving nor speaking.

I've become one to the background, I don't move and I just stare at Max while Steve and Dustin repeatedly yell in her face. I feel like I'm not breathing even though I am, I swear I don't even blink.

I don't know what's happening but it can not be good. I turn on my heels and walk to Eddie who's standing the farthest away and staring uwith disbelief, I can see his chest moving from heavy breathing.  "Eddie what's happening?"

I can see him register my voice but nothing comes out of him, he just keeps staring at Max. Robin runs up to Eddie now and grabs him by the shoulders "you were there when this happened to Angela right?" I watch as Eddie rapidly nods his head, Robin still holding his shoulders asks "how did you get her out of it?"

Now I understand, this is what happened to me when I saw Vecna, and now its happening to Max. This has happened to her before which means it'll probably happen to me again. "What did you do?!" Robin yells again

Eddie just shakes his head and says "I don't know! I didn't do anything s-she just f-fell down I don't know!" Robin seems displeased by that answer as she let's go of his shoulders and put her hand to her head as she starts pacing.

Nancy talks now "wait remember when we saw Victor Creel and he told us about his son Henry?" She says to Robin but we all hear "who's Victor Creel?" I ask but everyone avoids the question, Robin says right after I ask that "yes! Yes!" She pauses "wait what does that have to do with anything?"

"During the killings there was a song playing"Nancy says and Robin gasps "a song!"

Nancy and Robin make a run towards Max leaving me and Eddie alone in the middle, we share a confused glance and then walk up to Max where all the others are gathered. "Steve we need music!" Robin yells at the screaming boys "What?!" Steve yells back

Nancy replies back "we don't have time to explain we just need to know her favorite song!" Dustin stands and runs to the front of the trailer, we all watch him run back with a pair of headphones. "These are Max's her favorite song has to be in here" Dustin grabs the tape recorder and emptys all the tapes on to the floor, all of us gather around and look through them trying to find the one we think she likes the most.

"Do any of you know what she likes?" I ask while looking through every tape "nope" Eddie answered and we're all still frantically looking though tapes of music. "Why don't we just use Spotify?!" I scream and Dustin says "she's uses these okay!" And finds the one that looks like its been used the most running up that hill by Kate Bush

"This one this one!" Dustin is screaming and he sticks it into the cassette
player, he runs up to Max stepping on my knee in process to which I say "ow" and he puts the head phones on Max's head.

Dustin stands back aways and Steve asks him "what the hell is that supposed to do?!" And Dustin screams its supposed to help. Steve rubs his forehead with his fingers

All of sudden Max starts to hover above the ground like she's flying. Steve shoots back and all of us just stare at her now she's well above the ground almost touching the roof. I never realized but this thing has a very high roof, Max's hands are down by her sides and her legs are spread apart so it looks like she's in kind of a starfish position.

We all just stare at her in the air, I know we all want to do something but we can't, what could we do? My heart is racing and my palms are sweaty, I'm just hoping whatever Nancy and Robin had in mind with the music is working.

All of a sudden Max falls from the sky and onto the ground, Steve catches her at the ground and we all run towards them. Max screams as if the thing is still on her and I catch the moment she realizes she's safe here with us and she starts crying.

After what happened with Max we sat down son the floor of the trailer and she told us everything. Everything meaning how Vecna almost killed her and he showed her something to tell Eleven, which is the girl I never met- with superpowers.

"It kept spreading" Max is still in tears telling this story but I don't blame her, I would be too. "The gates they- got bigger they spread all around Hawkins and i- he showed me my mom and she was- and Mike and Will and all of you- everyone was gone" she said that part as a whisper. "But that's not real right I mean that hasn't happened" Steve interjects

"Not yet" Max says "it hasn't happened yet" she looks each of us the eye one by one "but it felt so real and- and he wouldn't just show me that for it not to happen" Eddie shivers next to me, he puts his head in his hands "Jesus Christ" he exclaims

"Well there has to be a way to fix this right or stop it from happening?" Robin questions "Yea We stick to our plan... We go in there" Nancy says and Eddie makes an x shape with his hands "nope"
"Its the only way" Nancy continues "that's why we came here right? And why we got all our weapons? The kill this thing- to fight back!" Nancy is trying to encourage us but I can say its not working on me, I don't want to do anything that puts us in even more danger.

"She's right" says Dustin "we have no other choice" he holds his hand out facing down out in front of him "are we in?" We all look around waiting for someone else to agree "I'm in" Nancy places her hand on top on Dustin's "I'm in too" Robin says and places her hand on top of Nancy's "me three" Steve says and right after him Max says "me four" all their hands are stacked and that leaves just me and Eddie.

We both look at each other and we both have a look of fear in our eyes but after we look at each other for a few seconds Eddie nods his head at me then throws his hand in the pile "I'm in" and then its down to me.

I have no other option at this point, even though I really don't want to do this I cant chicken out and go home- not now. I also have the curse of Vecna, if I go home there's no guarantee I survive to see tomorrow, but I guess that same thing could go for now to when we visit this house.

But I have to at least try, I raise my hand and put it in the pile "I'm in"
