Chapter Nine.
Eleanor didn't want to leave the house while Calum was still on his break from tour. She didn't want to face him again, except she did at the same time. She wanted to know if there was a chance for them to get back together, but she knew that was the wrong thing to be thinking about when she was supposed to be with Aaron. She had decided to not leave the house again, until she knew for sure Calum was back on tour and on the other side of the world again. Adriana understood, but Aaron not so much. As far as he was concerned, Calum was just another ex. He didn't know that they had been together for the past two years and how they were in love. How they were each other's everything. He didn't know any of it. Eleanor felt bad for keeping it from him, but she didn't want him to feel like he was a rebound. Technically he was, but she had been happier lately and she had Aaron to thank for that.
Adriana managed to get Eleanor out of the house on Tuesday, even though Calum still hadn't returned to tour. Adriana persuaded Eleanor to go shopping - she wanted to get her best friend a new outfit, to cheer her up. Adriana dragged Eleanor into her favourite little dress shop that had a shoe section on the far side, and Eleanor looked around in awe. She hadn't been in here before, but she could see why Adriana loved it in here. They ranged from pinafores to maxi dresses, from flats to pumps. Eleanor could see this becoming her new favourite shop.
Eleanor's attention soon diverted to a short, pleated collared dress, so she walked over to check it out. She found her size, and held it against her body to see how it looked.
"Ade, what do you think of this dress?" she called out, asking for Adriana's opinion. Adriana spun around from where she was looking and walked over to Eleanor.
"Oh! That dress is so you! Go try it on!" she squealed, pushing Eleanor towards the fitting rooms. While Eleanor tried on the dress, Adriana carried on browsing. "Ell, let me see, let me see!" Adriana spoke excitedly, approaching the curtain Eleanor was getting changed behind. Eleanor laughed to herself, while buttoning up the dress. She pulled open the curtain so Ade could see and did a little twirl. "You so have to buy that!" Adriana gasped. Eleanor smiled, taking a look at the price tag. Eleanor's eyes widened at the price; it was $36.
"Yeah, maybe not" she said.
Adriana frowned, "Why not?" she asked, taking a look at the price tag herself. Her mouth took the shape of an 'o'. "Well, I can pay half" she offered.
"Really?" Eleanor asked, unsure of the offer.
"Yes absolutely! You are going to buy that dress, because we're not leaving this shop until that dress is yours. Now, go get changed so we can go pay" Adriana pushed Eleanor back into the small room and closed the curtain for her. Eleanor took off the dress, putting it on the hanger. She handed the dress to Adriana along with $15 and shouting a 'Thank you' through the curtain, so she could pay while Eleanor got changed back into her clothes.
They left the shop, and decided to go and get some food. They agreed on Panda Express, and as they walked, they became hungrier with every step they took.
After they had eaten, they decided to head on home. On their walk to the bus stop, Eleanor noticed Calum sitting outside a little cafe with a girl she didn't recognise. Eleanor felt her heart sink again. She didn't know this, but how she felt right now was how Calum felt when he found out she was dating Aaron.
"Ell, you've moved on. You've got to let him move on too" Adriana whispered, but just loud enough for Eleanor to hear. Hearing this, Eleanor realised she didn't want to move on. She didn't want to be with Aaron. She didn't want anyone else but Calum. She didn't want Calum to move on either; as selfish as that may sound. She noticed Calum looking in her direction, and the girl he was sitting with turned around also.
"Let's go" Eleanor whispered, barely audible. They returned to their walk to the bus stop, Eleanor only looking back once.
When they reached home, Eleanor headed straight upstairs. She dumped her bag on the floor and flopped onto her bed, face first, and let out an exasperated sigh. She didn't know what to do anymore.
