Chapter Thirteen.
Eleanor was yet to break up with Aaron. She knew she had to, she just wasn't sure how. She had thought about doing so over the phone, or via text, but she knew that would be too harsh. Nobody deserves to be broken up with through a phone call or text; it had happened to her before so she knew how much it hurt.
The doorbell rang, disrupting her thoughts. She ran downstairs and opened the door to be faced with no other than Aaron himself.
Her eyes widened, "Aaron!" she decided now was the best time, otherwise she would keep putting it off until it was too late. It was strange how she had been thinking of him and now here he was. He leaned in to kiss her but she moved her head so that he ended up kissing her cheek. "We need to talk" she told him, stepping out the house and closing the door behind her.
"Oh. That doesn't sound good" he said. Aaron knew exactly what was coming.
"Look, Aaron. You're a great guy, you really are, and I'm glad Adriana set us up. But the truth is, I'm still in love with Calum. And it's not fair on you to have a girlfriend who can only think about her ex. So what I'm trying to say is..." she started.
"You just want to be friends?" he asked, finishing her sentence.
"Yeah" she looked down at her shoes, feeling bad. She felt like she had been leading him on, she probably had been without even realising it. "I'm sorry. I didn't think it could ever be this hard to get over someone but it is. I know everyone says this, but I really do hope we can stay friends, I like having you in my life" she confessed.
"It's okay. I like having you in my life, too. So if we're going to be friends, want to go down to the beach? You can invite Adriana if you'd like" he offered. Eleanor smiled in agreement before going to get changed in beach-worthy attire, and called Adriana.
Eleanor and Aaron started their walk to the beach; they were going to meet Adriana there.
Adriana was already there by the time Eleanor and Aaron had reached the beach. She was in the same place the last time her and Eleanor had been at the beach, so she was easy to find. Eleanor noticed the same group of people playing volleyball from the last time she had been here. Adriana noticed them too, so the three of them went to join in their game again.
They only played for half an hour today, as the rest of the other guys had somewhere else to be. Adriana, Eleanor and Aaron headed back to their stuff and sat down, lying in the sun. It wasn't as hot as usual today, but it was hot enough for them to be able to tan.
The three of them lied in the warm sound for about fifteen minutes in a peaceful silence, before Adriana decided she was bored.
"We're going in the sea!" Adriana announced, pulling both Eleanor and Aaron up off the sand and pulled them towards the sea.
When they reached the water, Adriana jumped on Eleanor's back, immediately pulling them both under. They emerged from the water, laughing hysterically.
"I hate you, Ade!" Eleanor laughed, shoving her best friend lightly.
"Nah, you love me!" Ade replied, jumping on Eleanor's back again, this time not being pulled under the water. Eleanor spun the two around, eventually toppling over onto Aaron. Thankfully though, Aaron managed to catch them before they hit water.
"If I didn't know any better, I'd think you two were drunk!" Aaron laughed as the two girls caught their balance.
"Maybe we are!" Eleanor giggled, pretending she was slightly tipsy. Aaron rolled his eyes, laughing at the pair in front of him.
