Soul locked away behind broken trust,
Trapped inside a rusted cage of lies,
Shattered heart hidden under ruffled feathers.
I asked you why you would not sing,
"Not even a melody, not even trill a note?"
You did not, would not, could not reply,
For your mellifluous song had been locked away,
Just like you, sitting in your battered prison,
Slowly, elegantly, growing delirious with passing time.
I had taken pity upon you, for I could not bear to be you.
For this reason among many, I would end your misery,
Breaking the lock, opening the rusted door.
You would no longer silently suffer,
For you are no longer an imprisoned, caged bird.
