The Sauna Test

Steve was still sound asleep until Jades alarm clock went off. Steve grunted, rolling over, he put his hand on the side of the bed Jade slept on, but it was empty. He moved his hand around trying to feel for Jade but she wasn't there.

Steve immediately shot up when he didn't feel Jade next to him. "Jay?" Steve said getting up from the bed. Steve heard faint noises coming from the living room so he made his way down there.

Steve walked into the living room and there Jade was sitting on the ground with the phone up to her ear and a cigarette lit in between her fingers.

"No, no I don't want to transfer. I need to speak to the Chief." Jade said into the phone.

"Well...I'm sorry, he's still not here."The other line said.

"Do you know where he is? It's urgent." Jade said frustrated.

"No, he has not come in yet. But I can let him know when he gets here."

"Okay, well can you just call the other number that I gave you, when you see him? That's my work number." Jade said.

"Yes. I will let you know when he arrives."

"Thank you." Jade said and hung up the phone. Jade took a long drag out of her cigarette and stayed staring at the wall.

Steve sat down next to Jade in silence. Jade rested her head on Steve's shoulder. "I'm sorry, about what I said last night."

"Jay, don't be sorry. I'm sorry, I know you're worried. I overreacted."

Jade shook her head."I hate when we fight, I'm sorry."

"I know, me too." Steve said grabbing Jades hand.

"Thank you for...being here."

"I'm not going anywhere. I'm here to stay forever." Steve said making Jade smile.

Dustin was constantly going in and out of the Mall checking on the rooftop, seeing what the Russians were up to. From the rooftop Dustin could see Russians down below with huge guns in their hands guarding a door. Dustin would come back into the shop to give the teens in-tell on what was happening.

When Dustin came back from the rooftop they all sat down at the table to hear what information Dustin brought back.

"That keycard opens the door, but unfortunately, the Russian with this keycard also has a massive gun. Whatever's in this room, whatever's in those boxes, they really don't want anybody finding it." Dustin said to the teens.

Robin shook her head."There's got to be a way in."

"I agree but, we need to be more careful about this, I mean if they find us trying to go in there, and they are Russians...they won't hold back." Jade said. "They could kill us if they really wanted too."

Steve was fidgeting with his hat and plopped it on the table. "Well, you know...I could just take him out."

Jade and Robin looked at Steve confused. "Take who out?" Jade said eyeing Steve.

"The Russian guard." Steve said with ease  making the girls eyes him. "What I sneak up behind him, I knock him out, and I take his keycard. It's easy."

"Steve." Jade said.

"Yeah?" Steve asked.

Jade shook her head. "Shut up. You sound insane."

"Yeah. Did you not hear the part about the massive gun?" Dustin said to Steve.

"Yes, Dustin, I did. And that's why I would be sneaking." Steve said making his fingers tiptoe on the counter.
