The Piggyback

After they dropped off Erica, Lucas and Max at the old Victor Creel house they drove back to the trailer park homes.
They parked and repeatedly went over their plan to make sure their would be no mistakes.

"Okay. I wanna run through it one more time." Nancy said as they all sat inside the RV.  "Phase one."

"We meet Erica at the playground. She'll signal Max and Lucas when we're ready."Robin said.

Nancy nodded. "Phase two."

"Max baits Vecna. He'll go after her, which'll put her in his trance." Steve added.

"Phase three?"

"Me and Eddie draw the bats away." Dustin said as Eddie ruffled the top of Dustin's head.

"Four."

"We head into Vecna's newly bat-free lair, and...light the son of a bitch." Jade said holding up a glass bottle filled with gasoline and a towel rag.

"Nobody moves on to the next phase until we've all copied. Nobody deviates from the plan, no matter what."

Jade nodded. "And if things go sideways, if they don't go as planned..."

"We get out." Nancy finished. "Got it?"

"Got it." Everyone responded back.

They all hopped out of the RV with all their supplies and started to walk their way to Eddie's trailer. They moved quickly not wanting to waste anytime, Steve opened the door leading all of them inside.

Steve turned on the light from inside of the trailer and started to take off the supplies that hung on his back. Jade felt her stomach whirl when she saw the gate again. Steve got ready to pull himself up.

"Be careful." Dustin said.

"Thanks buddy." Steve said as he pulled himself up onto the rope. "Here goes nothing." Steve climbed through the gate and flipped himself swiftly landing on the other side.

"Wow." Jade said mesmerized. Steve looked up at them and shrugged, flashing them a smile.

"What does he want us to do, applaud?" Robin said sarcastically, Jade then started to clap making Robin side eye her.

"What? It was kinda hot." Jade said smiling up at Steve on the other side.

"Gross." Robin muttered.

Steve walked through the Upside Down of Eddie's trailer, retrieving the mattress from Eddie's room. Steve placed it right under the gate so everyone else would have a soft landing.

"All right. Let's go." Steve said, everyone looked at Jade wanting her to go first.

Jade looked up at the rope, traumatized by the first visit Vecna gave her.

"Maybe you should go first, just in case...it, uh, it happens again. We'd all be right here." Robin said softly to Jade. Jade nodded and looked back up the rope.

"It's okay, I've got you." Steve reassured. Jade pulled off the weapons from on her back and hoisted herself up. She climbed through the gate and landed down on the mattress with her eyes shut. She opened them slowly and saw Steve standing above her.

He reached out his hand to her, she grabbed it and pulled herself up. When she got up her and Steve met up closely face to face.

Steve's mind: "Thank God, it didn't happen again."

Dustin coughed obnoxiously from the other side. "We don't have all damn day."

"Sorry." Steve and Jade said quickly moving away from each other. Jade put her head down and wiped her nose quickly.
