The light outside began to dim as the sun was setting, and I watched the librarian slowly get up from her chair and walk over to the light switch. She flicked it on and soon the entire library was drowned in a soft yellow light. It was still bright, yet not as bright as it was before. I felt my eyes straining to read the words on Riley's book, and I wondered how he was doing.
A few more minutes passed, and I watched as Riley's appearance grew more and more relaxed-was that the word?- compared to its previous gelled-up style. It wasn't unpleasant, quite the opposite really. As he struggled to solve a tough problem, he ran his fingers through his sticky--from the gel--blond locks, mussing up his carefully styled hair.
He looked so different like that, hair covering his forehead and falling into his eyes, his sleeves down instead of rolled up, his lips pursed in concentration instead of turned upwards in a smirk. It looked nice... He looked nice.
As the light outside finally died out, and the library grew even dimmer than before, I watched as Riley squinted at his book, bringing the pages close to his face and staring at it intently. Then, after emitting a soft grown, reached into his bag and pulled out... No way... In his hand was a simple black rectangular case, a spectacle case.
Riley didn't wear glasses, did he?
He did.
In a single movement, he flipped open the lid of the case and uncovered the simple pair of black-rimmed glasses underneath the red cleaning-cloth. Then, my eyes widened as he pulled out the spectacles and unfolded the sides, resting it on the bridge of his nose and the tops of his ears. Shit, he looked good.
Deciding that I had stalked him enough, I slowly tiptoed down the rows of bookshelves, trying to be as stealthy as possible. Too bad Mikaela was the one with that particular talent. I placed my hand on a wobbly shelf and cringed as it made a loud creaking noise.
"Who's there!" Riley exclaimed, literally throwing his glasses off and slamming his palm straight down on the table. The librarian shot him a glare before shushing him and turning back to her paperwork, harrumphing softly to herself.
My blood ran cold, how was I going to get myself out of this mess? My fingers drummed against the spine of a book, and my teeth pulled my bottom lip between them. I was freaking out. My creepy little stalker session had been discovered, I would never ever live this down.
Somehow, while I drifted in the swirl of thoughts in my mind, I failed to notice the pounding footsteps getting closer and closer to where I was hidden.
Bam! His muscular arm trapped me between him, a bookshelf and the wall, his fist slamming against the mahogany. HIs eyes were flaming with anger, his limbs fighting against the urge to crush me between his hands. My eyes trembled in fear, looking up at him with dilated hazel irises. This Riley was so unlike the one I had seen just mere minutes ago, it was really quite extraordinary, how he managed to switch between his two sides so quickly.
Two sides... What made me come to that conclusion?
A memory of him, tears dripping down his face as he leaned on my shoulder. Another memory, him brushing his nose against mine before he pressed our lips together in a deep kiss. A different memory, him smirking as he backed me up against a wall after PE. Maybe that was it, there was just no way all those different personalities could reside in just one person.
