The sun was beating down on my skin as the tiny water droplets flowed down my arms in chlorine-filled rivulets. It was just my luck to have swimming for PE class... I shook out my hair and accidentally splattered my coach with water, looking away at lightning speed to avoid his nasty glare.
The pool water looked really refreshing, and I couldn't wait to get back into the water to avoid the suns rays. The sound of hooting cheers and loud laughter drew my attention to the court, where one of the other classes was playing some basketball.
"Dante! Dante! Dante!" A bunch of benched players began cheering for him, waving their arms in the air as he took a step back and prepared to make a shot. With unbelievable grace, he launched the ball over his head and forwards towards the hoop. My eyes followed the dull orange ball as it soared through the air, its arc unnaturally high as it fell neatly through the centre of the hoop.
"Yeah!" Dante pumped his fist up in the air, grinning brightly when his teammates came over to him and pounded him on his back. It was then that I realised just how much taller he was than everyone else. He towered over the majority of his teammates, his light brown hair making him stick out even more.
He's taller than Riley...
As if he could hear my thoughts, he turned towards where I was stood and met my awed gaze, crinkling up his eyes as he waved. I waved back, thinking that the redness in his cheeks was due to physical exertion when I realised just how much skin I was showing in this swimsuit.
"Chloe! You're up!" I jumped to attention and got onto the starting block, pulling my goggles into position as I prepared to dive. This was a timed test of course, and my coach would use the results to calculate my improvement over the rest of the term.
The whistle sounded and I flew into the air, diving and breaking the surface of the water. I felt the coolness of the water caressing against my skin, rushing against the length of my body as I shot through the water. I dragged my arms in a forwards crawl, free-styling against the force of the water.
I reached the other side and burst through to the air, gulping deeply. Slapping my hand against the floor, a pretty brunette girl gave me a big thumbs up as she clicked the stopwatch and recorded my time. Hopefully I did pretty well, so that my scores for PE wouldn't drag down my grade-point average.
I pulled myself out of the pool once again, sitting on the edge with my feet dangling in while I caught my breath. I pulled my hair out of my ponytail again and tossed it all to one side, encircling it with my thumb and forefinger and squeezing as I moved it downwards. A miniature waterfall came out of my hair and I ran my fingers through it, untangling the knots and loosening it up.
The bell rang and the coach got the remaining students out of the pool before dismissing us, sending us to the changing rooms before any of us could even blink. As we journeyed towards the changing rooms with towels over our hair or around our shoulders, a group of rowdy Year 11's were walking pass, wolf-whistling at us and shouting perverted pick-up lines.
They should build a barrier around this place...
"That's a nice piece of arse, Holt!" I whipped around and met Riley's hooded gaze, my face red and my fists shaking. He was just dying to get socked across the face, wasn't he...
