Why must Internal exams exist? They literally do not help with anything at all, all they do is provide unnecessary stress and drive us to the point of near madness. I slumped against the table and groaned into my notes, hoping that the ink wouldn't transfer to my face.

Katya had loudly declared that she was going to "screw studying!" before bidding me goodbye and heading home, and Mikaela had smiled at her exasperatedly before following her to make sure she didn't get herself run over by a car. They were both pretty lucky in that aspect: Mikaela hardly needing to study to get top scores, and Katya not studying at all and just scraping through.

I had to study though.

Sigh.

I flipped a page in my notebook and traced my fingers along the line, gaze following the movement and scanning the words I had written there. I knew that listening to Mikaela and getting a thick notebook to write down a condensed version of all my notes was a good idea! Note to self: from now on, always follow/copy Mikaela's study habits.

I scanned the room around me, sighing contentedly in relief as I looked about the near empty library. Good, peace and quiet, just what I need right now. Noise was bad, quiet is good. No annoying giggling girls, no loud guffawing boys, no little Year 7s making a ruckus over at the computers; how wonderful this is...

BANG! The door to the library swung open violently and slammed against the wall, shaking the shelves slightly and earning the person who had opened it a glare from the librarian. I couldn't see who it was no matter how far I craned my neck, the person's face hidden by the tall stack of books he was carrying. The person began to briskly walk over to the table I was sitting at, wobbling around as he walked and barely avoiding tripping over every single chair in his path.

I couldn't help the small smile that crossed my face at his actions, the tiny bit of humour I found at the situation making me relax slightly. I rolled my shoulders, placing a pen in my book to save the page before flipping it closed. I stretched and yawned, deciding to take a well-deserved break. I continued to watch the boy as he struggled to place down his books without toppling them all over, going down into this awkward squat/bow that had his butt sticking up in the air.

I laughed out loud, not able to hide it behind my hands before they bubbled up between my lips. The boy placed down his pile of books and peeked out from behind them, his eyes widening as they met mine.

Blue eyes...

I smiled awkwardly and waved, not wanting this first meeting to be too strained. Dante stared back at me in shock for a moment before smiling back, his eyes softening and his shoulders loosening. A wave of relief washed over me; he wasn't ignoring me! I gazed pointedly at his stack of books and he scratched his head, laughing nervously and sheepishly.

"Ha... Ha... Ha... Internals coming up, you know? Study time... Haha..." he said, plucking a book off the top of the pile and flipping it open. I looked at his stack and pursed my lips, wondering where half of those books had actually came from; we didn't even have that many textbooks!

"Yeah, guess so..." I replied, searching for topics that we could talk about in my head. "It's a nice day today, isn't it?"

If I could slap myself mentally, I just did. The stupidest thing to talk about, and I said it! Idiot...
