Local Mall

Chloe

I didn't know how to feel about Christmas, I had some really mixed feelings. I suppose it's sort of a love-hate thing.

"Stop looking so sour, Chloe, you're making us look bad," I turned towards Katya and stuck my tongue out at her. She, Mikaela and I were in the mall once more, wandering around amongst all of the giggling couples.

It wasn't as if I didn't like spending time with my best friends, I was just a little resentful about how Dante had ditched me.

Again.

Our school had already broken up for the Christmas/End-of-Year holiday, so we all had a month or so to relax before getting thrown back into our studies and our upcoming internal exams.

Eugh I hate those things.

I heard the sound of Katya and Mikaela giggling at something and sighed; they were more distant than before, Mikaela especially. I looked down at myself, I felt horribly overdressed-I had thought, since I was going out with Katya and Mikaela, that they would be wearing something utterly chic and fancy and outshine me.

Oh I had never been so wrong.

I was wearing a cute little dress I had gotten from one of my favourite boutiques, accompanied by a pair of low grey ribbon-up heels. I had thought that I looked cute, and sophisticated and that I would finally beat Mikaela and Katya. I really should have known better.

Mikaela was dressed in nothing but a pair of tight black skinny jeans and an oversized grey hoodie, an adorable black beret standing out against her light blonde hair. Even in something so casual she made it look good. Like, how?

Katya had on a dark blue pleated skirt with a pair of white leggings underneath--it was really cold outside!--along with a tucked in red and black plaid shirt. These two made things that should never have gone along work! Unfair!

I was fuming inside, but I was sort of already used to it.

That sounded extremely sad.

"CHLOE!" the sound of Katya's shout yanked me out of my daydream, her sea-blue eyes flaming as she glared. She must have been trying to say something to me.

"Sorry, what?" Katya rolled her eyes and Mikaela giggled.

"Gosh, Chloe, pay attention!" Katya pouted, "I was saying that my new boyfriend is one of Riley's friends!"

Wait. What? Riley's friends? Who? Who could it be? I tried to sift through my memories of encountering Riley's posse, and searched through the blurry faces for one that could catch Katya's ever-so-picky eye.

No... It couldn't be...

"His name is Nik Williams, and he is gor-gee-us!" I knew it. Nik Williams, the one who had cussed out Dante that one time when he had 'rescued' me from Riley after swim class. Jeez that was a long time ago.

"Is he treating you right?" Mikaela asked, one perfectly manicured eyebrow raised in question. That was quite a legitimate question, really, I knew Riley-aka you-was actually quite kind deep down, but who knew about his friends.

They weren't even his real friends.

"He's really swaggy and he's fit as anything," Katya gushed, grinning devilishly to herself, as if picturing Nik in her head shirtless.
