Chloe
Every single pair of eyes were focused on us in that one moment, and Mikaela didn't even look sorry for drawing their attention. Her eyes were wide and her jaw slack as she took in the meaning of the words written on that note.
I said it. Riley kissed me. Maybe saying it would help me come to terms with it, maybe, just maybe. The teacher harrumphed and the rest slowly turned back to the board, a few stray gazes still lingering on the two of us.
"Chloe, you're saying that Riley kissed you, on the lips, right?" Mikaela's voice was breathier than usual, which did nothing to hide the excitement in it. I knew that she and Katya had always thought of me as their younger sister-despite being older than the two of them-because of my lack of experience, in well, everything. Now that I've finally been kissed... Mikaela must be over the moon.
"Yes, now can we talk about this later," I hissed, turning back to my own notebook while ignoring the blush rising steadily to my cheeks. Mikaela huffed but obliged, grumbling to herself about my lack of cooperation.
I was glad that the teacher didn't decide to come and investigate, imagine him reading the note out loud to the class... Oh that would be so embarrassing. Word would get back to Riley about it for sure and then he would think that it was a big deal for me or something... Was it a big deal for me... Who am I trying to kid of course it was.
Class ended without a hitch, and I was hardly about to gather my books back into my bag before Mikaela dug her fingers into my arm and yanked me out of the room. She dragged--or guided, really, if you counted how gentle she was--us all the way into the girls bathroom and cornered me, grinning.
"Tell. Me. Everything," the devilishness in her eyes scared me.
"Give me some space you busybody!"
"I don't care! Was he a good kisser? Did he use tongue? Oh goodness did he get to second base? You're only fifteen, Chloe!" A flurry of question was directed at me, and I struggled to keep track of them, much less answer them.
"Why are you so nosey!"
"Why are you so secretive!"
~~~-*-~~~
I evaded Mikaela's questions through the skin of my teeth, blurting out some excuse about meeting up with Dante and dashing to my next class. The time flew by, and before I knew it, it was break time. The bell sounded and a whole herd of students flowed out from the various classroom door, filling the hallways up to the brim.
It was hard to evade anyone when you could hardly move.
Riley's tall stature made him stick out of the crowd, his head rising much higher than most of the students. Had he always been that tall? Why didn't I remember him leaning down when he kissed me- NO.
I shook my head to rid it of any other unholy thoughts, before, as if on cue, Riley turned and looked in my direction. I ducked, then remembered that I probably wasn't tall enough for him to see me, and let out a sigh of relief. He raised his arms and I caught my breath, praying to whoever was listening that I could blend in with the crowd.
He waved at someone behind me, and I noticed that the sleeves of his shirt was rolled up to his elbows. His muscles were really defined, and rolling up his sleeves definitely drew attention to them. Looking at them now, it's no wonder he was strong enough to pin me to that wall- STOP IT.
I groaned inwardly at my lack of self control, bashing myself mentally at how my thoughts kept drifting to that...kiss... Riley stopped moving, most likely waiting for his friend to catch up to him or something, and I tried to avoid him by clinging to one of the poles and fighting the current of the wave of students. My plan backfired apparently, because after a few minutes, there was only a small trickle of people left around us.
Riley snorted loudly at something his friend said, and the sound brought a gentle smile to my lips. So he can be a normal human being after all... He looked up and met my eyes, winking at me before turning and heading down the hallway with his posse by his side. I blushed at the nonchalantness of that tiny action and turned away, slapping at my cheeks to get the blush to die down.
"Dante..." He had the strangest expression on his face, a mixture of longing and sadness. It couldn't possibly be directed at me could it? He noticed me looking at him and immediately changed his expression, a wide smile stretching over his features and brightening them.
"Hey Chloe, wanna go grab something to eat?" Dante extended a hand towards me and grinned invitingly, jerking me closer to him the second I grasped it. He must not have seen that whole incident with Riley then...
"I feel like eating toast," I said, feeling my stomach growl, "you?"
"Toast is so boring! I'm going for some bangers and mash," he said, rubbing his stomach in anticipation. I gave him a strange look and he chuckled, "it just doesn't taste the same in Ireland,"
"Did you miss being back here?" I asked him, although I could already kind of anticipate his answer.
"Hell yeah, they talk really funny over there, and the weather is so bloody humid and sunny," Dante ranted, "and I missed the people I left behind of course."
"Kiss ass," I shoved him playfully, giggling as he feigned injury. Though somewhere in the back of my mind, I wondered if that statement was directed at me. I shrugged off the thought, it couldn't possibly be me, he must have other friends and relatives, it was definitely not directed solely at me. Definitely.
Though, as I felt the warmth of his hand around mine, and the sensation of his arm brushing against mine, I questioned if I was lying to myself again.
Once again I rewrote the entire chapter, and most of it is kinda filler but we'll get to the good stuff soon enough! :) Much thanks to my phantom Beta, who has helped me to brainstorm ideas and come up with an excellent story plot. Anyways guys I hope you enjoy this chapter!
