"Dante did what?" Katya shoved Mikaela out of the way and pressed her face closer to the screen, ignoring her friend's oomph of pain as she toppled over onto the carpeted floor of her bedroom. Both Mikaela and Katya were hanging out over at the Waters household, and we were currently chatting over a quick Skype call.
"I told you, he left a cute little package and everything-" I started, knocking the side of my computer a few times as my video began to lag. "Hello? Can you hear me?"
"I heard you fine! But what was it you said he did before that?" although it had seemed an impossible task, somehow she managed to press her face even closer to the screen and look me dead in the eyes with a slight crazed look in her expression.
"Stop crowding her, you idiot!" Mikaela exclaimed from somewhere in the background, a pair of hands miraculously appearing and wrapping themselves around Katya's face, pulling her away from the camera. Mikaela's face replaced hers and she smiled sheepishly at her momentary loss of control.
I paused for a moment, biting my lip as I recalled that pain in my chest when Dante had been talking to whoever it was on the phone that day. It was awful, that's for sure. "He was on the phone with someone, and then he said he had to go."
"Well, did you find out who it was?" Mikaela stretched out her hand to the side and kept a struggling and cursing Katya at arms length, making sure she couldn't hog the screen anymore.
"Mikaela! Let go of me!" Katya hissed, trying to pull herself out of her friend's tight grasp. It was to no avail, though, as Mikaela continued to keep her out of sight. I laughed at their antics, but deep down inside, I felt a little sour at the fact that they were having so much fun together while I was sitting alone in my room.
                                All alone. Again.
"Where are your parents, Chlo?" Katya finally managed to squeeze a tiny corner of her face in front of the camera, grinning widely as Mikaela scowled. I looked over my shoulder instinctively at the mention of my parents, though not once have they ever came into my room before.
"They're out with her," I frowned, my parents had left early this morning, leaving nothing but a note saying that they would be spending the day with her, my perfect, goddamn sister. I was starving, seeing as how I had been too tired to make breakfast for myself, and how my parents hadn't left me anything but the dirty dishes in the sink.
"I don't understand why you hate her so much, Chloe, she's perfectly pleasant to be around," Mikaela had walked over to some other part of her room, so the sound of her voice was slightly softer than usual. From an unseen corner, Mikaela lobbed a shiny red apple over at Katya, the latter barely managing to catch it in time.
I watched as she walked back into the view of the camera, carrying a bright green apple of her own. "Yeah, 'cos she's not your sister."
They wouldn't understand. Katya had only a super nice older brother to base her judgement off of, and Mik didn't have any siblings at all.
"Are you sure you don't want us to come over?" Katya took a bite out of her apple and mumbled the words through the fruity flesh. Mikaela smacked Katya across the shoulder at her disgusting manners, taking a much more civilised bite out of her own fruit and chewing neatly.
