Chapter 89

Smoker's body was suddenly tossed on land beside me and a moment later, Zoro surfaced. I smiled in relief as Zoro climbed on land beside me, "What? Smoker? Hey Zoro, what are you doing? In case you forgot, that guy is our enemy!" Sanji chastised, "Back off! I didn't wanna do it, but he was about to die, that's all!" Zoro argued. Sanji sighed, "Whatever. We gotta get moving, guys. W've lost too much time already. Vivi, Evie, can we still make it?" Sanji asked us. Vivi was wringing her clothes out, "I don't know." my twin answered.

I noticed Smoker coughing up water and then glare at Zoro. He stood up and reached for his weapon, "Roronoa!" he shouted, as my body moved on its own. I pulled out my sword and got in between Zoro and Smoker, blocking Smoker's weapon with my sword. The clashing caught the attention of everyone else, as Smoker and I stared each other down, "Now, is that how you properly thank someone for saving your life?" I asked in a sweet voice, glaring at him. Smoker looked from me to Zoro, who had turned to look at us over his shoulder.

"Why did you save my life?" Smoker asked Zoro, looking past me. Zoro seeemed to remember something, his eyes locked on Smoker, "Evie, step back." Zoro said, his voice soft. I looked at him, "But Zoro," I protested, "It's alright." he assured me. I knocked Smoker's weapon back as Zoro stepped in front of me, "All I did was follow my captain's orders. That's it. So, wouldn't read too much into it if I were you. It was one of his crazy whims. Pay it no mind." Zoro finished.

Smoker stared at us as I slid my hand in Zoro's, "Come on." I urged softly, but Smoker's next words made me stop, "Then you wouldn't have any problem with me carrying out my duties and arresting you, right?" he asked. My eyes widened, "Are you serious right now? Zoro just saved your life, you ungrateful jerk!" I snapped as Zoro squeezed my hand. Sanji sighed, "See? I knew this was a bad idea. This is what you get for saving a Marine." he remarked as Zoro glared at Smoker silently.

Usopp and Luffy finally woke up, shouting about Alubarna and Crocodile, while Smoker watched, "Finally awake?" Shae asked. Luffy looked back at her and saw Smoker standing in front of Zoro who stood between us, "You want some of this? Bring it on!" Luffy demanded, turning on Smoker as Usopp panicked, "I should. But you just saved my life." Smoker said as his eyes flicked to Luffy. They watched each other closely, before Smoker closed his eyes, "Go. This is the only time I'm letting you Straw Hats off, got it? When we next meet, It's gonna be as enemies." he promised.

Shouting caused me to look away, "The Marines! Come on, we gotta go!" I said pulling on Zoro's arm, "Well, that's our cue. So, Vivi, Evie, which way is Alubarna?" Sanji asked. Vivi smiled and answered, "Due East, across the desert!" she answered as Shae laughed, "Then, lets go! To Alubarna!" she said. I looked at Smoker, "Thank you." I said as Zoro called to Luffy, "Luffy come on! What are you doing? Aren't you coming? Shae get him." Zoro said. Shae ran up and grabbed Luffy's hand, "Luffy, we gotta run." she said. Luffy grinned at Smoker, "You are alright, Smokey." he laughed, then we all took off running East, Zoro pulling me along and Shae pulling Luffy along as well.
