JISOO'S POV

I sat comfortably on the ridiculously expensive couch in my bitch cousin’s office, watching her with mild amusement. Yes, totally a bitch, at least to everyone else. The way she barked at employees, firing anyone who made the slightest mistake, would terrify most people. But me? Not at all.

Because underneath that cold-hearted, intimidating CEO exterior, Jennie Ruby Jane Kim was nothing but a softie. She just didn’t let anyone see it.

"What are you doing here, Chu?" her sharp voice cut through my thoughts.

See? She doesn’t even call me Unnie. Tsk tsk.

"We’re attending a dinner later, Jendukie," I said casually, watching her frown. "Your father, the Jeons, you know the drill."

The moment I mentioned the Jeons, her expression darkened. That name alone was enough to put her in a bad mood.

"I know they’re going to try setting me up with that man again," she muttered coldly.

That man was none other than Jeon Jade, the heir to the third-largest company in South Korea. And, to put it bluntly, an arrogant bastard.

"You know you can’t avoid it, Jendukie," I pointed out. "You haven’t introduced a boyfriend or girlfriend to the family, so they keep throwing people at you."

Jennie scoffed. "And believe me, Chu, Uncle is going to insist on this one."

She wasn’t wrong. Her father and the Jeons had been plotting to arrange a match for years, and Jennie had rejected every single one. But this time, it felt different, like they were more determined than ever.

"If you don’t bring someone tonight, they’ll seal the deal for you," I warned.

"You know I don’t want anyone in my life, Chu," Jennie said, her voice quieter this time. "I don’t like people getting too close to me. You know that."

I sighed. "Okay, I get it. But if you do have a plan for tonight, just know I’ll back you up, alright?"

Jennie didn’t respond, but I knew she was thinking about it.

"Now, I have to go. See you tonight. Bye!" I waved, leaving her office.

As I walked down the hallway, I couldn’t help but wonder, when will Jennie finally meet the one person who can change her mind?

______

JENNIE'S POV

I hate this. I hate how they always try to force someone into my life. I don’t need a partner. I’ve built everything on my own, I am Jennie Ruby Jane Kim, after all.

To be honest, I’ve never seriously dated anyone because they’re all a bunch of idiots who only see my body or my bank account. Love? That’s a joke.

"Urgh!!!" I groaned, running a frustrated hand through my hair.

I needed a plan, something to shut them up once and for all. If I didn’t do something, tonight’s dinner would turn into another exhausting lecture about why I needed to get married.

I was about to storm out of my office when...

"Ms. Kim," Mina’s voice interrupted. "You have a meeting with the Min Company in ten minutes, followed by two more with the HR department. And this evening, there’s the family dinner."

Right. Work. I had been so wrapped up in my frustration that I’d completely forgotten my schedule.

I exhaled sharply, pushing aside my thoughts.

"Let’s go," I said, straightening my posture.

"Is everything ready?"

"Yes, Ms. Kim," Mina confirmed.

Without another word, I walked out of my office, letting work consume me, at least for now.
