Vivien had hardly left l his side, only to go to Steve's house to sleep or freshen up with a shower. She knew everyone was worried about her as much as they were worried about Eddie, but they also knew that she would never leave him like this.
No one knew if Eddie was going to wake up and the doctors couldn't tell if the infection had hit his brain. But they did a transfusion to replenish all the blood he had lost.
"Maybe if you'd gone today I wouldn't be like this."
"They're taking too long. They're too slow." Vivien complains as she walks back and forth the hall while Robin and Nancy go to get food.
"It's only been four days, Viv."
"I don't care. Steve I need to see Eddie or at least get into his room."
"Is everything okay, Vivien?" Steve asks her worried noticing the expression on the girl's face"I bet you're glad i'm dead now, huh?"
"Eddie no. You're not dead-"
"Oh...but I am."
Vivien closes her eyes and shakes her head slightly to ward off that phrase that constantly resonates in her mind.
No, Steve, how is everything okay.
"Steve, I'd be lying if I said it's okay, but right now I just want to see him.""Woah woah where are you going?" Dustin asks her when he sees her walk away and approach the counter
"To talk to the doctor.""Umh good morning, doctor." she coughs to clear her voice, "I'd like to visit Eddie Munson if I can. We've been waiting for days and I'd like to check on him."
"What's your name, Miss?" the old lady asks, fixing her glasses on her nose
"Vivien..."
"I'm sorry, but the boy can't have visitors."
"Munson."
"Excuse me?"
"Vivien... Munson, his wife. Betrothed." the young woman shows the ring given her by Eddie biting the inside of her cheek to every bullshit she's said
"WHAT?" Dustin exclaims from behind shocked by his words while Vivien strikes him with her eyes"I know it's unusual, but we're not a normal couple..." he adds, noting the woman's strange expression.
Yeah, like normal, aren't those wounds on Eddie's body.
"Mhm mhm at all." sospira Steve
"Uh mhm...Miss-"
"Can't I see him either? One minute?"After praying, Vivien finally opens the door to Eddie's room.
He is lying in some clean white sheets. He looks so pale, so cold. His hair is wet and ruffled even more messy than normal, his skin is pale and covered with various bandages. His lips are chapped. The nurse had cleaned it up a bit, but it didn't help much. He almost bled out when they arrived at the hospital that night. The others hadn't seen him, they hadn't heard his screams, how terrified he was despite the usual adorable smile on his face. Their hearts didn't break, Vivien's did. But he's here and alive, which was all that mattered right now.
He promised Dustin that Eddie would wake up, that he's strong. Eddie was an inspiration to him.
"Hey you..."The girl sits in the uncomfortable hospital chair next to the bed listening to the rhythmic and continuous beeping of monitors.
Beep
Beep
BeepShe twists her fingers together with Eddie's to let him know she was there. At the sight of the tattoo of the bat on his forearm she feels nauseated.
He's in Eddie's room right now, looking at him, stroking his hand, but she doesn't know what to do.
"Well mhm, you know the first time we looked at each other was in the cafeteria and...I never thought you were crazy or anything but just...different."
Eddie that day was talking using his hands to add emphasis to whatever he was saying. There was a smile on his face and his big brown eyes sparkled.
"You know...you always got me curious, actually, and I used to admire you when you got on the table and...and yelled at the assholes of the basketball team. I admire you because you don't care about the rules or the judgment of the others and you are simply yourself and certainly are not afraid to mess with those bullies" Vivien strokes his cheek
