They ran in the car. In the front seats Steve, at the wheel and Nancy, while in the back, Robin, Eddie and Vivien.
Vivien gets even closer to Eddie, now her side is pressed against him and she is completely leaning on the boy. The warmth radiating from the boy's body and the smell of cigarettes from his leather jacket make her feel safe.
She looks away while staring at the landscape outside the window, sweaty hand palms.
The dark bags under her eyes, her rosy cheeks have become pale, she hadn't been captured by Vecna yet and she already looks dead. She just wants this nightmare to end. Right now, she can only imagine the nights when she, Eleven and Max spent awake watching movies and reading marvel comics, surrounded by junk food and drinks. Or the last summer days spent at the Starcourt with Steve and Robin.
Right now she and Eddie could have had their date, who have been waiting for a long time.
Vivien, finally torn away from her thoughts when Eddie's gentle voice echoes in her head "Sweetheart..." he gives her a slight tap in her arm
"Hey love..." replies the girl, almost with a whisper looking into Eddie's eyes full of worry, turning him a sad smile"How do you feel now?"
Vivien sighs, "I feel...like someone who's about to sacrifice herself. Actually I'm more worried about El, she's gonna have to face the asshole."
It's true, her sister will practically have to fight him all alone. Vivien can only distract him enough, but the hard work will be done by Eleven."And um...about the memory" he clears his throat "Do you have one in mind?"
"Let's just say I have a lot...From my childhood, last year..., this week," she hints a smile and Eddie does the same
"Good" the boy smiles, printing a kiss on her forehead"Eddie..."
"Yes?"
"...I'm glad you're here with me"
"Me, too," he slightly chuckles, "I could never miss it. I'm not going anywhere. I'm not going to let you go through this alone. We've done everything together in the last few weeks and we'll do this together too"
It's weird to think it's only been a few weeks since all this started."It's just...- you know that night I-"
"I know," he interrupts her, "Nothing's gonna happen this time, I promise.""Together, until the end." the boy murmurs as he stares at her lovingly
"But this isn't the end, is it?"
"No, I was just looking for a poetic phrase."
Vivien chuckles while his eyes light up at that sweet sound. If there's one thing Vivien loves about him, it's that he's always able to make her smile no matter what.
"But I'm serious, I'll be near you."Vivien presses her lips against Eddie's, in a sweet kiss, one of those that makes your knees tremble. They let their tongues intertwine, he always holds Vivien's face gently. They close their eyes, knowing that the feeling of butterflies still remains in their stomach.
God she loves him so much. They approach their foreheads, breathlessly and smiling in sighs.
He bites his lip as he continues to hold her close to him. She can feel the boy's heart beating against her chest. The safety of Eddie's arms, feeling like he could never let her go.Steve, noticing her friend making out in the back of his car with a guy, he would stop her, but not in this case, not when she's about to sacrifice herself. Then he remains silent, looking at Nancy for a few seconds.
"You're so cute, I'd like to hug you both," Robin smiles, they had completely forgotten that the girl was literally near them.
"Guys" Steve calls them turning slightly "when we are inside do not open your mouth, for any reason. Vecna will hear us and the plan will go to shit, we have to get the okay from Dustin"
"All right," Eddie murmurs as Steve turns off the radio and gives Vivien the walkman, ti Robin the walkie-talkie and Nancy some diaries on which to write and communicate without having to talk.
All together, they get out of the car. Their eyes linger over the Creel's house. Obviously, always in the same condition.
The smell of putrefaction fills her nose as they approach the door. The grass, obviously too long that goes up to the outer walls, the various windows blocked by wooden planks and surrounded by uncultivated lawn. The only feature of the house that is intact and in good condition is the front door, with the usual stained glass window.
As she walks with her converse slowly down the driveway, it almost feels like she's hesitating, so Eddie takes her hand, squeezing it, and with an expression on his face saying, 'we're gonna make it.'
Nancy and Steve open the door, inviting them all to enter. At the entrance they can immediately see an old pendulum clock, dirty with dust. At that sight Vivien's stomach is like upside down. Everything is covered with cobwebs, once elegant and expensive furniture now abandoned.
Eddie had never been there before, he starts looking around, a look of wonder and interest written on his pretty face. A look that was immediately reciprocated by the group when they enter.
Robin closed the door behind them and pointed a torch. None of them knew what to say at first as they stood there stunned.
Eddie looks down, lighting everything with his torch and locates a grate near the wall, the thing that seemed to stand out most is the fact that there is no dust like everything else. He approaches and bends over, but before he can open it, Steve stops him, nodding a no.
Nancy takes a piece of paper from her diary and starts writing about it
'Let's go to the attic, from there she will attract him at the warning of Dustin'
While everyone else nodsVivien climbs the stairs first, everyone else follows her trying to make as little noise as possible up the steps.
In the headphones she listens to some of her favorite songs, an empty look on their faces as they wait, all clearly nervous, their eyes constantly looking around.
Steve leans against the wall in silence, Robin and Nancy give each other reassuring looks while Vivien and Eddie are across the room. But it is not a normal comfortable silence, instead it is extremely tense.
Robin hastily writes in the diary 'I MISS THE TIMES WHEN I WAS WORRIED ABOUT FINDING YOU A BOYFRIEND'
Vivien smiles as she remembers those moments.Steve gives her a tap on the shoulder and shows her a sheet of paper that says 'BE CAREFUL, I WANT YOU WHOLE AT THE END' hinting at a smile at her friend who returns it, saying 'I COULD NEVER LEAVE LITTLE STEVIE ALONE' while the boy rolls his eyes.
Eddie runs a hand through her raven hair looking at her with his big shiny eyes, then he runs to Nancy tearing one of the paper and writes 'I PROMISE I WILL TAKE YOU TO OUR DATE WHEN EVERYTHING IS RESOLVED'
Vivien smiles 'ACTUALLY LET THE DATE GO'
Eddie curves his eyebrows in a confusing expression drawing a '?'
'I WAS THINKING OF SOMETHING SIMPLER. THE TWO OF US ALONE, A MOVIE, PIZZA?''I JUST NEED YOU' Vivien writes, showing the sheet to her Eddie
'I THINK IT'S PERFECT'Suddenly Nancy's flashlight starts flashing. The girl exchanges a look with Vivien but then the light goes out suddenly and her face is covered with an expression of confusion.
Robin next to her sees her turn on her flashlight, but after a few seconds it goes off again.'HE'S HERE. HE'S MOVING' Vivien writes on one of the paper, this time it's her torch that lights up. Everyone now looks at the flashing torch that the girl is slowly lifting into the air. She stares carefully but she is shaken by
"Guys? Guys!" a thinner voice from the walkie talkie makes Robin jump slightly. Immediately the boys turn suddenly towards the girl.
It's Dustin. "It's all set up here. Go ahead and start the first phase of the plan...let's kill that son of a bitch."
