When the marauders were in their last year at Hogwarts they all engraved their name on a desk.
After James and Lily were married, her name was added and Harry's name was added after he was born.
The night Voldemort returned however, Remus and Sirius removed Peter's name for good.
When Remus married Tonks, her name was added and when teddy was born, Harry added his name.
The desk was kept in Sirius' room at grimmuld place but after the war Harry moved it to the Gryffindor boys dorm and protected with a spell.
When Minerva McGonagall was looking around the room after the war she noticed the desk that she had never noticed before. As she walked past she saw the names engraved on them, "Padfoot, Prongs, Mooney, Evans, Harry, Nymphy and Teddy"
She smiled thinking of her dear students, almost all who had given their lives to save the wizarding world. As she turned away her eyes caught a message engraved on the desk, it said "thank you Minney McG"
Professor McGonagall started to cry at the thought of those students who she had loved like her own children.
