Fighting through paparazzis and cameras being shoved in his face, Tony finally managed to get inside his property. People were screaming at him but his mind cut everything away, blocking him in sort of a bubble, protecting himself. He had not heard one thing that the paparazzis had screamed at him.
He locked the front door behind him and ran to find Pepper as he screamed her name through the house. Pepper walked rapidly to him, eyebrows frowned with concern.
"What's going?" Pepper asked as Tony placed his hands on her shoulders.
"Paparazzis" Tony sighed, "All over the street. I... they're-"
"Oh, Tony" Pepper sighed as if she knew something and Tony frowned his eyebrows, "I've got to tell something"
"What? What happened?"
"It's Hailey" Pepper pressed her lips together.
Tony's heart missed a beat. "What? Is she okay, what happened?"
Pepper shook her head. "She's been declared a fugitive from SHIELD. She's not who she said she was"
"Wh- no. She's- she's my sister, who else could she be? She- where is she?"
"No one knows, Tony. She ran"
Tony closed his eyes and shook his head, as if to deny the whole thing. He would not believe this, he wanted to speak to Hailey. He knew this couldn't be true, they were all wrong, everyone was wrong.
"No." Tony just said before storming away.
"Tony!"
"No!" Tony yelled as he turned to Pepper who had followed him, "I need to talk to her"
"Everyone is looking for her, they're gonna find her, don't worry!"
"I'm not worrying, Pepper. I just need- I need to find my sister"
Pepper let Tony walk away. She knew he would have a hard time processing this, that's why she didn't tell him the news right away.
Tony buried himself in research for days, keeping an eye on the news. He obviously figured out about the whole Hydra/SHIELD thing but he still refused to acknowledge Hailey was apart of it. But as he thought about it, everything added up perfectly: her backstory, how she became an agent, how she went missing for all those years.
He didn't eat, barely went to the bathroom and didn't acknowledge Pepper that came to check on him every hours. The front door kept ringing and his phone kept buzzing but he never answered and he instructed Pepper not to let anyone in.

The phone barely rang once before Tony answered the call. He was just so tired of this same number calling for the tenth time today.
"I swear, if this is another prank, I'll-"
"Hey, Tony" Hailey cut him off.
She didn't have time for useless talk. It was already very risky for her to call her brother. She knew all of her friends were on watch twenty four hours a day.
