FOUR DAYS LATER

She was cleaning her knives, refining them, making them thinner, clearer, making sure they could cut a hair in two in the length. She barely even looked up when she heard someone slowly walking in.

She knew who it was. She kept her eyes on the knife between her fingers, unable to stand the sight of her.

Actually, she was embarrassed he was able to put me in such a devastating state like he did the other day. The incident happened four days ago and they hadn't even talked ever since. Not even training, they had avoided each other all week.

He was walking slowly. He knew she had seen him come in and he knew she just needed space and time. He had given her time, he better give her space now or she was gonna murder him. She harshly put the knife down on the table, a loud metal cling echoing through the room as she took another knife in her hands. He better be careful, she had a collection of knives that were just asking to be thrown at someone.

He stopped walking the moment she pushed the knife down. She bit her tongue to prevent herself from smiling. He was afraid of her. Good, he should be.

"Rose, I..." he started to speak.

"I told you not to call me that" she interrupted him, immediately sharing him the preview of the conversation they were about to have.

"What else am I supposed to call you, then ?"

"Simple" she grinned, a proud smile on her lips, "Nothing. You don't call me"

"We're gonna be partners, I have to call you something"

"Well, no, you don't. We can just be communicating without calling each other anything"

"Well, I want to call you something"

Anger suddenly flowing through her veins, she threw the knife that was between her fingers at him. He moved his head, avoiding the knife at the very last moment. She let out a chuckle when she saw a bit of his long hair falling off on the floor. He eyed it but quickly came back to her. Her smile dropped the instant his blue eyes met hers.

"What are you doing here, Soldier ?" she sighed.

He rubbed the back of his neck, letting her see he was nervous. "I... I wanted to apologize"

Her eyes slightly widened as she raised her eyebrows. "Apologize ? Why would you apologize ?" bitterness in her voice could be heard as she crossed her arms on her chest.

"I said things that I shouldn't have said. I crossed the line. And I'm sorry"

"Sorry" she repeated the word, almost whispering like she didn't believe a word of what he was saying.

And she didn't. She didn't believe him when he said he was sorry. He had already tried to apologize four days ago and she hadn't believed a word then and she still didn't. She scrunched her nose, not knowing what to do.
