CHAPTER 4

“Oh shit, sorry,” I yelped, jumping away from the boy I toppled into. I was pretty much out of it; I ended arguing with Darcy last night, my head landing on my pillow at one in the morning. This morning I was up, showered and ready for Ben by half six without conversing with Angel.

Maybe it was because I was literally part zombie right now – I don’t even know how I got to the coffee shop I was in – but it took me a few seconds before;

FUCK!!!

My hand jumped to my arm and started cradling as my skin started to blister. I looked up at my assaulter with wide eyes like he decided to throw hot coffee on me on purpose.

“You should watch where you’re going, Kid,” the boy snapped as he glared at the coffee droplets splattered on my arm. I tilted my head up to look at him with warning eyes. He wasn’t being serious, was he?

“Actually, Love, I think you should watch where you’re going because you know that burning smell? Yeah, that’s my flesh!”

He stared blankly down at me, a smirk on his lips like he found my anger amusing. “Babe, you PMSing or something?” he joked and I cocked an eyebrow.

“Hey, Jodi, do you want milk with… hi,” Ben finally popped up with two cups in his hand. He gave a questioning look between the two of us before uttering “Zeel,” he cleared his throat and then lay his now cold eyes on the rude idiot before me. “What do you want with my Jodi?”

“I had nothing to do with this bumder, he just fried my fresh like a sausage and apparently it’s my fault,” I didn’t look away from the rude boy as I talked to Ben, the former smirking back down at me like my intimidation was a joke.

“Honey, I don’t know what a bumder is so if you want to insult me at least say it in my language.”

I grinned at him cruelly. “It is English, actually, or do you speak another language? Like… Knobaneese?” Ben spluttered the coffee he was drinking getting a little on all three of us. As I smiled this Zeel kid just look deeply annoyed. “It’s a cross between a bummer and a bender,” I finally explained and waited. I got the reaction I wanted; his face fell.

“Ooookaaay, Babe, we’d better go or you’ll late,” Ben said grabbing my wrist after putting his coffee down. Once I’d moved past my ‘attacker’ he took his coffee again forcing my own in my hand. “Sweetie, you need to stop with the confrontation,” he hissed as we made our way to the door. I shrugged as I pulled the door open for him and he walked out.

“Oh, Jodi isn’t it?” I looked over to where my name was called, to see the skin burner causing me to scowl. “See you around, Love,” I gritted my teeth, deciding I would promise to Ben without his knowing that I would stop with the fights. I needed to stay. Sigh. I flipped two fingers up at him and walked out of the small café.

“She’s got you high,
She’s got you high,
She’s got you high,
She’s got you high,
Sheeee’s got youuu hiiiigh” I scratched my pen into the paper quickly as I stared at the small picture of a wasp that I had printed off Google half an hour ago. Music was blaring in my ears as I sketched.

I turned when I felt someone poke me in the top of my back. Pulling my headphones off my head I turned to come eye to racoon-ed eye with Lana; the emo girl who sits behind me in art. I gave a small smile and with a look of boredom she pointed a finger to the front. Scowling because I was now out of ‘my zone’ I turned to see the teacher looking around the room helplessly.
