CHAPTER 14

“Look at me in the eyes, Max,” I snapped as he ducked his head to look at the floor. He hesitantly did and with a roll of my eyes I grabbed his head in my hands and pulled him up to look at me straight. “Stay!” I ordered as I started on the next instruction.

“Right, now say something to her, say hi and compliment her.”

“No, he shouldn’t do that,” Noah said sounding bored and frustrated from where he lay on my bed. MY BED! “That never happens.”

“It does,” I snapped glaring at him.

“No, only in your stories. In real life he introduces himself and starts up a charming conversation about the size of her jugs,” Noah cupped his hands in front of him like there were nunga-nungas before him.

“No, that’s disgusting!” Alfie said next to him, slapping his little brother’s hands away. “What you should do Max is get Jodi to become friends with the girl, get her chatting to her and then let her introduce you to her. Then, do what Jodi says giving her a compliment. Not a big one, something like your hair looks pretty that way or that you thought she did great in her math quiz. Nothing poetic or frilly, that’s awkward.”

At least one of the Moore boys seemed to have good ideas.

But…

“Max doesn’t want me to know,” I pouted glancing at Max and the look he gave showed he was still adamant on keeping his piece o’ love a secret. He shook his head and looked at the floor. “Maxie, I’m fine with you not telling me,” I placed a hand on his shoulder and he spied up at me and gave a small smile. He’ll tell me in time.

“Okay then, uh,” Alfie closed his eyes as he started thinking. I couldn’t help but realise that a man was lying on my bed, a gorgeous adult man. Yes, Noah was gorgeous and yes, he was a man but did he ever act like an adult? NO SIR! “Is there going to be any formals coming up?” I furrowed my eyebrows at him in confusion. Formals?

“There’s the winter one,” Noah helped and then grinning turned to me spotting my confusion. “A formal is a dance.”

“What; like Prom?”

“No, prom’s bigger.”

“So how many do you have?” I asked sinking deeper into confusion.

“Well, there’s homecoming, that’s about the football team,” he smirked at me, wriggling his eyebrows. After rolling my eyes he continued. “Then there’s winter and spring formal, you wear your best clothes to that and then there’s prom at the end of the year where you go for the big shebang and stuff.”

“Oooh, so I wear my Coldplay t-shirt for that?” I said in fake understanding.

“I think she’s got it,” Alfie said pumping his fist lazily in the air. “So, there’s going to be winter formal?” Noah nodded and a smile appeared on Alfie’s face as we got back to the matter at hand; Max’s love life. “Well, when you’re there just pop over and ask her for a dance, tell her she looks nice and act like a friend. It’ll go on from there,” he shrugged.

“Yeah, but that’s the thing. I don’t know how to approach her,” Max said getting flustered.

“I have an idea,” I said as soon as the light bulb lit above my head, an imaginary one, of course. “You up for a little role play.”
