CHAPTER 11
“Jodes, I got soccer practice after school today and Noah’s going to the gym,” Max said at the end of lunch. I nodded taking a gulp of air. At breakfast this morning Darcy had told me that practice was on for today even though I was still a mass of aching limbs, with that news he also gave me the days newspaper. Printed in big capitals on the front page was the news that there was another warning for some more islands last night, Sandy was getting closer and closer north and it was freaking me out.
It wasn’t a good enough reason to get out of dance either so I was still going to have to endure another two hours of pain.
“Yeah, that’s fine,” I whispered. I didn’t like the thought of being alone. I’m not needy, it’s just that right now, when I haven’t got a clue what to do if a hurricane tore through the streets I would like some reassurance that I was going to have an able body to tell me what to do. Max and Noah were those able bodies I was relying on.
“We’ll be back by seven, tops.”
“Seven,” I squeaked.
“Yeah, I have a game tonight and Noah has a game coming up on Friday, he needs to get some more training in and well, I have the thing of, you know, the game being tonight,” I nodded realising that I was sounding like a spoilt brat. It was just…. I was scared.
And I did not like the feeling.
“I guess I could have a girly night or something,” I said with a small smile.
“That’s the spirit,” Max said with a smile as we came up to the corridor we needed to split different ways. “You can paint your nails, face mask, The Notebook, chocolate and one direction… oh the excitement of being a girl!” he laughed.
“How have you not got a girlfriend?” I questioned aloud. His cheeks burnt red at the question and I instantly felt like a bitch. “What I mean is, that’s a perfect day to give to a girl, it’s so… sweet, t’is all,” for what I said – which I thought was beautiful and charming of me – I got a shove in the side making me smack lightly into the wall. “Well!” I said in fake offence.
“Well,” he returned and rolling my eyes I walked down the hallway that split us apart. “Well, see you later, then!” Max called after me.
Turning and walking backwards I spotted him standing by the wall watching me with a cheeky smile on his face. “Love you too!” I yelled.
“I never said that!” he called back.
“But I did!”
~~~
“Okay,” Ben said as we walked into the boys’ lounge and slobbed out on our usual couch. He took another sip out of Chico’s homemade espresso, pulled a face and then continued. “Well, watch the DVD Darcy gave you and try and copy the moves, if you still don’t get it call me and we can try it on Saturday, cool?”
