CHAPTER 6
“No,” I whined, stomping my boot into the carpet and pouting. “No, not you!”
I wasn’t able to look away from the dark eyed boy sitting in a chair behind the head teacher. A grin spread across his perfectly rosy lips making my heart flitter at how the skin around his chocolate orbs crinkle in a really cute fashion. I was a sucker for eyes, and cheesy smiles.
He was beautiful; he had dark brown eyes that reminded me of Bournville chocolate, golden tanned skin and dark brown, almost black hair. He was everything I found appealing, in the looks department anyways.
He was the pen-tapper; the stalker… wasn’t his name Moore? He was the boy who I had bumped into only a couple of hours ago when I was on my way to find out my fate and if I was staying at Liberty.
“He’s my new roommate?” I asked in disbelief. Mr Johnson’s stern look confirmed the affirmative and made me snap my mouth shut, stopping the sarcastic remarks. Great! The boy’s smile widened somehow, like he could read my mind.
I scowled at him. It’s not that I didn’t like him, he seemed kind of sweet. It’s just, he seemed to be able to dominate and manipulate my mood and I didn’t like how I couldn’t control it. I also think it’s not a good thing to live with your stalker.
“I am going to presume you two are acquainted. Anyway, Mr Moore isn’t going to be your only roommate. Mr Davis is a little late because of the soccer game.”
“I thought you said that you were having your game next week,” I said, although it came out more like a question.
“No, Sweetie, I do football.” I nodded; I was a complete dunce at sports, full stop. But when it came to American football all I knew was that they wore helmets and ran with those brown rugby balls. I always thought it was like a type of rugby but I was then yelled at by Mikey for even thinking such a thing – I still didn’t know the difference between the two.
“Right then, so when Mr Davis returns we can call your families and have a discussion with them. Jodi, do you know the time difference between here and your home?” I nodded and looked at the clock that was stuck to the wall over the door. Its six thirty here and there was a seven hour time difference, meaning…
“It would be one in the morning,” I finished the sum quickly.
“Ahh, would anyone be awake at this time?”
With a mischievous smile, I said; “Probably my brother.” I pulled my phone out of the waist band of my skirt. “D’you want me to call him?” I waved the electronic contraption at Johnson and he nodded tiredly. “I could get him to get mum up on Skype or on the phone or something,” I continued making a plan. Johnson just nodded again and I started on calling my brother. “Is it okay if I go into the hall?” I bit my lips trying to hide a smile. My sibling and I were known for being rude on the phone.
“Go for it.” Sir stifled a yawn and I turned on my heels to smack into Ben’s wall of muscle. I totally forgot he was still here! I looked up at him, eyebrows rising expectantly and with a small smile he stepped out of the way. I slipped into the hall just being able to catch Mr Johnson say in his deep, timbre voice; “Ah, Mr Johnson, I think it would be best for you to go back to your room now? Thank you for bringing your dance partner over. You can see her in the morning.”
I stopped what I was doing – thumb hovering over my brother’s contact name – and watched as Ben nodded without a fight and said a thank you to our head teacher. He backed out of the room and closed the door behind him before turning to look at me.
