~~ Hello! I know its been a while since I have put a chapter up but you know... A-levels... I will be back in full swing in about a month after all my exams are over!
I dedicate this to the lovely Alette who lives where I wish I did and probably one of the only people who I can happily fangirl over Downton with haha!
CHAPTER 32
“… and seriously man; grilled cheese everywhere!” I laughed along as Charlie bounced on the stone step, eyes rounded and a larger than life smile on his face. In my blazer pocket my phone buzzed; once, twice… it was on the third ring that I pulled it out of the pocket. It was a blocked number and frowning I accepted the call and pressed it to my ear giving Noah – who opened his mouth to say something – an apologetic smile.
Having phone calls back home wasn’t an uncommon thing, withheld calls were the majority of them from Molly or Mikey prank calling me. But since I moved here I never got calls; the boys were nearly always with me and it was too much to have phone calls over seas. Having it withheld made it even more confusing.
“Hello, Jodi Thomlinson?” The female voice started as soon as I accepted.
“Yes?”
“Mr Johnson is requiring you to see him at twelve forty-five.”
I reached behind me and taking Noah’s left arm I checked the time. “But that’s in five minutes.”
“Yes.”
“And I’m ten blocks away.”
“Yes, well, you had better walk fast. Or even, run.” The phone call ended pulling it away from my ear I stared at my phone like it had done something disgusting; Strange woman.
“What was that about?” Noah slid down onto my step, his legs either side of me as he placed his chin on my shoulder and joined me in staring at the phone.
“I need to see the head teacher.” Sighing, I pulled myself up and started grabbing my things. “The lady didn’t say why though.” Noah took my coat and handed it up to me. I smiled and whilst hanging it on the body of my bag he straightened out the curls that had formed at the hem of my skirt.
“If you anything happens call me, okay?” I nodded, smiling, and started down the steps. I walked quickly instead of running like that robot of a secretary had advised and made it to Mr Johnson’s door two minutes after my appointment had commenced.
I knocked and walked in smiling. That fell when I saw who was sitting in one of the two chairs in front of the wide desk. Angel. I forced the smile back on and – looking at Mr Johnson – nodded in acknowledgement before taking the vacant chair next to my old roommate.
“Hello girls, how have you been?” I gave a stiff nod, Angel copied. “I know it has been a while since we last spoke, but there have been many complications that got in the way of the process.” As he spoke I noticed there were changes in our head teacher. His dark skin was starting to line; around the mouth and the eyes. His black hair was salt and peppered with grey and silver. “This meeting is to discuss the progress of your room.”
“You mean lack of process,” Angel corrected. I was stilled into silence; she did know that there had been a full-blown hurricane a few months back. That people, not only in the city but most of the east side of the continent had lost their homes and workplace. I know I hadn’t lost mine but if the princess next to me hadn’t put her clothes on top of her straighteners this wouldn’t have happened. That didn’t stop her though. “I mean honestly, Sir, it’s been seven months and do you think I can live seven months with the amount of closet space Missy holds? I think not!” She sighed and rubbing her nails along her blazer she inspected them again. “Her closet is like the size of the rest of the people in the dorm, the people who live… below.”
