CHAPTER 25
“Auntie Pat can’t make it for the holiday either,” Harvey – Noah’s oldest brother – added as he went on his rant of who was and who was not staying at their house over the next few weeks.
“Don’t like Auntie Pat anyway,” Noah grumbled from the passenger seat.
“Auntie Pat is our mom’s aunt,” Alfie explained, leaning in to whisper in my ear. With every name the cynical Harvey said Alfie would helpfully whisper the relations status as Noah grunted some bitter comment about the family member.
“At least I don’t have to see the bat for another year,” Noah continued with his mini rant.
A snort ripped through the car and lifting my head from my folded hands I saw in the rear-view mirror that Harvey was smirking. “Au contraire, my little brother, there’s a meal in about an hour, posh thing, we’re seeing the family then and then it’s bye-bye for the year.” In front and next to me Noah and Alfie groaned. “Your girlfriend will have to wear something else, the jeans won’t cut,” his eyes flashed to me in the mirror and then it sunk in.
Do they all think…?
“We’re not–!” we both yelled, our voices cutting off at the exact same time. My eyes flashed to his that were looking at my coldly in the mirror outside the car. I squirmed and looked away, finding playing with my fingers more fun than anything right now, at this moment in time.
“Oh, the tension,” Harvey heckled in his droning voice.
I hate him.
“Anyway, Danny said something about how she’s helping the charity,” he continued insulting me, completely ignoring the tension that was suffocating me. “So she can always give her a dress or something,” his eyes flashed to Noah in the passenger seat before going back to the road. “I still don’t get why she’s here.”
Woah, since when was James BLUNT a relative of Noah’s?
“Who, Jodi?” Harvey nodded. “I thought Mom told you?” his brother now shook his head. “She was alone for the winter and as she’s like… my roommate I thought–”
“She’s your roommate?!” Harvey bellowed.
Is there an echo in this car?
“Yeah, didn’t Mom tell you?” a shake of the head from the sunshine that is Noah’s older brother told us all. “There was a fire and she got placed with us.”
“Cool.”
Yeah, ‘cause having your possessions burnt to a cinder is so cool.
“Mmhmm,” Noah mumbled absentmindedly.
Well… ouch. Way for standing up for me like my knight, Noah!
The car fell back into silence and about twenty minutes later Harvey called out that we’ll be at their house in ten. I stayed quiet, my headphones in and just thinking about anything but Noah and last night. It was pretty hard, but in the end I was mentally screaming the words to the songs playing inside my head.

Toothpaste Kisses
Novela JuvenilJodi is snappy, sardonic and so very British. That's probably how she ended up living with two boys, and probably how she ended kissing one of them in a very messy manner. The question is; will she regret it or will the unlikely pair find love? So...
