The One and Only Part 3, Chapter 36

At the courthouse, Brenda's trial was underway. Skye, Alan, AJ, Monica, Tracy, Carly, Alexis, Ric, Julia, and Ned were all present as Brenda entered with her lawyer and the judge. "Are both sides ready?" the judge asked. "Yes, Your Honor," Alexis replied. "Yes," the lawyer said. "Ms. Davis, are you ready for your opening statements?" the judge asked. "Yes," Alexis answered, then stood up to deliver her opening statement.

"Ms. Barrett has been mentally unstable for a long time. She previously had a breakdown and was treated for it. Ms. Barrett placed a bomb in the hotel, caring little about anyone who could have been hurt—children and adults alike. Ms. Barrett needs to go to jail. She won't stop because the person she wants to kill—Skye Quartermaine—Jack—is still alive. Mrs. Jax has children, and we must protect her and prevent Brenda from causing more harm. Do the right thing here," Alexis stated.

Brenda's lawyer stood up. "My client is unstable and needs help, which she could receive in a mental hospital, not a jail cell. Please allow my client to get the help she needs," he argued. "Are you ready to call your first witness?" the judge asked. "Yes, Your Honor," Alexis replied. "Yes," the lawyer confirmed.

"I call Skye Quartermaine-Jack to the stand," the lawyer announced. Skye rose, looked at Brenda, and sat down.

"Mrs. Jack, how did you meet Brenda?" Alexis asked.

"The first time she came to town, she came between Jax and me. Jax left me for her. I was so heartbroken," Skye replied.

"Are you afraid Brenda might come after you if she doesn't go to jail?" Alexis asked.

"Yes. I fear for my life and my children's lives—that Brenda might hurt us," Skye said.

"Did Brenda confess to you that she did it?" Alexis asked.

"Yes. Brenda said she wants to kill me—that's why she put the bomb... You killed Jax!" Skye yelled, pointing at Brenda.

"Mrs. Jack," the judge said.

"Sorry," Skye responded.

"I'm done," Alexis said.

The lawyer stood up again. "Mrs. Jack, I'm sorry about your husband, but isn't all this just payback from your past with Brenda?" he asked.

"No. I'm not lying. Brenda did this," Skye replied.

"I'm done," Alexis declared.

The lawyer called another witness. "I call Brenda's sister, Julia," he said.

Julia took the stand.

"Mrs. Barrett, do mental issues run in your family?" the lawyer asked.

"In Brenda's case, yes. We are half-sisters, and her mother has mental health issues," Julia answered.

"Do you want your sister to get help?" the lawyer asked.

"Yes. If you let Brenda go to a mental hospital, I will make sure she gets help," Julia replied.

"Thank you," the lawyer said.

Alexis then stood up. "Aren't you working back in London?" she asked.

"Yes, but the office can be moved," Julia replied.

"You're willing to change your life for your sister?" Alexis asked.

"Yes... that's what family does," Julia responded.

"I'm done," Alexis said.
