It was the first morning waking up at Cousins, the smell of the sea breezing through my window, the sunlight beaming through. I woke up happy and ready for the day.
I go to my window looking outside, Belly and Conrad were sat by the pool talking, Conrad was smoking. I wish he didn't, he started last year and even smoking weed. Even though he always used to say it stopped your brain developing.
I roll my eyes walking away as I open up my book reading for a while before getting ready. I sat at my vanity doing my hair. That's when the door opens and I see Jeremiah's head appear. I'm pretty sure this boy doesn't know how to knock. "You know one of these days your gonna walk in and I'm going to be like naked or something?" I remind him as he lies on my bed.
"And who said I have a problem with that?" He jokes as I throw my beauty blender at him. "What do you want?" I sigh turning back to my mirror putting my hair up. "You're joking right?!" He sounded shocked, I look at him in the mirror giving him a confused look at his mouth widens.
"It's the first morning of Cousins?" He prompts me to remember. "Just get your swimming stuff Ellie, I'm really disappointed you don't remember." He shakes his head leaving my room pretending to be upset.
How could I forget, every year me and Jeremiah would go to the beach, just us too. We would catch up about the year we missed out on. It was a time for just us two.
I excitedly get in my bikini grabbing my towel and flips flops rushing down the stairs as Jeremiah stand at the bottom a big smile on his face. "I'm still annoyed you don't remember." He points at me telling me off.
"Oh shush, last one to the sea is a rotten egg!" I shout pushing past him running through the kitchen passing everyone having breakfast as Jeremiah follows.
When I was at school I did track every morning, so I knew this was no competition. I drop my towel flick off my flip flops as I get to the beach and dive into the sea. "Loser!" I shout as I swim around, eventually Jeremiah joins me.
We stay in the sea for a while, floating around, talking about last night before heading onto the beach setting up our towels as we lay down catching the sun.
"So tell me Ellie, how was the most boring year of your life?" He asks turning his head to me. "Well I had a boyfriend, but it only lasted like four months and he cheated on me with this girl called Lacey bridges, and I know what you'll say 'his loss' and I would have to agree I was way out of his league." I joke as Jeremiah laughs sitting up a little.
"And then that's really it." I shrug as Jeremiah's smile dropped a little, silence filling the air. "El's come on, you can talk to me." He speaks softly referring to me being kicked out of school.
I look up to the sky taking a deep breath. "My dad Um..." i trail off tears already forming in my eyes. "He visits and we visit him but... it's like he doesn't acknowledge us. He never shows up to my track meets, or parent teacher days."
"I even asked him to come to my graduation. 'Sorry Ellie, I'm busy with Victoria.' My graduation Jere." I sit up wiping a tear off my cheek.
"I just wanted him to notice me and stop shutting me out. So, one day at school I trashed a classroom, I didn't even think it was that bad, until they told my parents it was nine hundred pounds worth of damage."
"I was just so angry at him, and was willing to do anything to get him to just be my dad for one second, even if that meant getting kicked out of school, it's stupid I know." I shake my head wiping my tears.
