Conrad's POV

To Connie,
I don't know why I'm writing this to you, I know you hate me but I can't help but feel there's some sort of invisible string between us pulling us together and I feel it every second I'm not with you.

I don't understand why we have this hatred towards each other. I don't know why I always snap back at you, because I always regret it. I hate hurting you. I hate, hating you.

Whenever I get upset thinking about how or why we faded away from each other, I listen to our song, Iris by the googoo dolls. I don't know if you'll even remember this song but it means so much to me.'it reminds me why I hold hope one day you'll come back to cousins and remember how close we were.

I hope your present gives you that hope. Because I want you back Connie. I want you to look at me, notice me.

I couldn't help but read the card over and over again. If I got this card two years ago, things might've been different, I would've known she felt something for me, even if it wasn't love, she wanted me in her life. But El was right, how does this change things.

She slept with my brother, one wooden box and a card can't change that. I throw the card to the bottom of my bed turning to the music box. I wind it up as it plays our song quietly. Of course I remembered this song, I listened to it at winter when I missed cousins, when I missed her.

That's when I remembered what I saw at the dinner table. From the moment I heard the song I knew Ellie had got me this present but I didn't want to embarrass her. I also knew because inside was a photo of us, I didn't get a good enough glance so I open the wooden box taking out the photo. It was old photo you could tell by the camera quality and how the edges were torn. It was me and Ellie as babies getting washed together in the sink by Susanna. I couldn't help but let out a big laugh. It was so stupid, we were both covered in food and crying.

I turn over the photo revealing a paragraph Ellie had wrote. 'Cousins 2004, the first time Susanna played us Iris, as soon as she put it on we both stopped crying.'

I put the photo down looking up at my ceiling when I hear a knock at my door. "Come in." I sit up as my mum walks in. I couldn't help but get emotional every time I saw her, she kept getting thinner, the circles round her eyes getting darker, but I knew I couldn't say anything, I couldn't do that to her.

"Hey darling." She smiles sitting down on the edge of my bed. "Hey mum what's up?" Her eyes divert to the present and card on my bed.

She picks up the box playing the tune. "I know I didn't get this for you, I would've remembered such a beautiful present." Nothing got past my mum, she knew us all too well.

"Ellie got it for me, two years ago, she forgot to give it to me." She then picks up the photo, as she inspects the card I quickly grab the card putting it under my pillow. "Oh I remember this photo, you two would be trouble together, this was after you both decided to throw mushy peas at each other." She laughs her eyes glistening at the photo.

She turns it over reading the back of it. "It's true, Ellie must've good ears cause I told her mum that like eight years ago." She sighs placing the photo down.

"Look Ellie's Deb date just cancelled, his mum called to say they've had to go home due to a family emergency. I know it's not you're thing, but it would be a big help if you would be Ellie's escort."

"Yeah I can." I nod my head. It's like my mouth opened before I even knew what to say. At this point in time anything my mum asks me to do, I will do it. And I know how upset Ellie would be if she had no date to the Deb ball. "Ok good I'll let Ellie know." She gets up kissing my head as she says goodnight before walking to the door.

"Wait mum, don't tell her, let it be a surprise." She immediately smiles a big grin. "Okay hunny." She winks before leaving my room.
