It was time for Isaac to open the last door and this was the one that held the most memorable memory for Isaac... And that memory was neither more nor less than the day of their first kiss. It all happened after Professor Harris ordered them to stock the janitor's closet.
- Hey, are you okay?- asked Melanie, when she saw that Isaac was behaving a little weird.
- You know I'm not a big fan of small spaces.
- Yeah, I know... Sorry.
They were stocking the closet when suddenly the door closed by itself. Isaac still tried to open it, but it felt like something was holding it from the outside, which had Isaac quite worried.
- Isaac relax. Please relax!
- Come on.- said Isaac, as he knocked on the door for someone to hear him and set them free.
- Isaac, please relax, you're going to hurt yourself.
But being trapped there reminded Isaac of the times when his father would lock him in the freezer for hours and his eyes started to change color and claws appeared.
- Isaac, don't...
However Isaac couldn't control himself and started walking towards his best friend and grabbed her by the wrists making her recoil until she hit a bookcase. Melanie was screaming her name in an attempt to make him see what was happening, but who ended up saving her was Scott, who, hearing her screams, went into the closet and pushed Isaac away.
- Are you okay?- asked Scott worried.
- I'm fine... It's not his fault.
- I know.- said Scott.- Now we know they want to do more than get you angry. They want to get someone hurt.
- I'm sorry, Mel. I'm so so sorry. Oh my god, what did I do? Honey, I'm so sorry.
- Hey, it's okay! I'm okay.- Melanie said kneeling in front of him.
- Let me see! Mel, please let me see your wrists.
Hesitantly Mel pulled the sleeves of her sueter up, letting Isaac see the wounds he'd made from his claws. Seeing what he had done, a wave of regret assailed him.
- Mel, I could have killed you... If Scott hadn't shown up...
- But he showed up and it wasn't your fault. You heard me? It wasn't your fault.- Melanie said hugging her best friend.
Even though Isaac knew it hadn't been entirely his fault, he couldn't help but feel very guilty about hurting his best friend, the one person he'd promised to protect against everything and everyone. That night, he came out of his room and knocked on Melanie's bedroom door.
-Can't you sleep either?- Melanie asked sitting on her bed and Isaac sat next to her.
"Does it still hurt?" asked Isaac looking at her wrists.
- No. In fact, it doesn't hurt anymore.
- Melanie, you know you can always tell me the truth.
- It still hurts me a little but it will pass.
- If Scott hadn't shown up, you...
- But he showed up. Isaac, you can't keep blaming yourself for what happened.
- Of course I can. Mel, I promised you I would protect you, and I ended up being the one who hurt you. This time we were lucky that Scott showed up, but next time we might not be so lucky.
- There won't be a next one, Isaac.
- You don't know. The best is if you...
- If you're going to start with the story that we have to get away, you can stop right now. I won't stop being your friend or spending time with you because you're a werewolf. Isaac you are my best friend and I will never, ever walk away from you. Please don't pull me out of your life...- Melanie said when she was interrupted by Isaac's lips on hers.
