Three years later....ISAAC POV:
Three years have passed since our return to Liverpool with Alec and things have changed quite a bit. Alec took a while to adapt to the city, which is extremely normal, but as the days progressed he managed to make friends. Melanie and I are just two weeks away from finishing our courses and we can't wait to get back to Beacon Hills, as although we are loving living in Liverpool, our whole lives are in Beacon Hills.
Today marks five years since Melanie and I started dating and I have a surprise planned that I hope she just loves.
- I came as fast as I could. - said Alec putting his backpack on top of the sofa, as soon as he got home. - What's going on? In the message you said it was a matter of life and death.
- Maybe I may have exaggerated a little in the message, but the truth is that it is a serious matter and I desperately need your help. You know that today Mel and I celebrate five years of dating, right?
- Yes....
- I want to surprise her and I want to give her something very special.- I said, taking out a small black box that was in the small closet that we have at the entrance to the apartment.- Do you think she will like it?
- Do I think?! Of course! Mel will love it!
- Do you think you can help me prepare the surprise?
- Of course, that's not even a question. But do you already have an idea of what you want to do?
- I was thinking of having a romantic dinner here at home. And we can take advantage of Mel still having classes to decorate the house.
- So we just have to go to the nearest supermarket and buy everything we need.- said Alec opening the entrance door and we left the house.
Three hours later we already had the house decorated, dinner to be made and Alec had already arranged to go to the movies with some friends, to give us more privacy. Melanie also texted me that she'd be home soon so I had to get ready. I was putting on my shirt when I heard Melanie's voice coming from the hall and I went downstairs.
- Isaac, what is this? - Melanie asked when she saw the house all decorated. - And it smells really good in the kitchen.
- I wanted to prepare a surprise for our anniversary.- I said, giving her a kiss on the lips.- That's why tonight we have the whole house to ourselves. Alec went to the movies with friends and will be back late.
- I confess that I am impressed.- Melanie said starting to go up the stairs.
Ten minutes later she came downstairs, wearing a beautiful red dress that fit her like a glove and black flats. She didn't have any makeup on her face, which wasn't necessary because she's naturally beautiful and she came to the kitchen to see if I needed any help.
After finishing making our dinner, we sat down at the table and ate while we talked. I admit that I was a little nervous about what came next because I was afraid that she wouldn't like my surprise because it's not a normal thing to do but it's something that I think is necessary and that I've always thought about doing with the woman of my life. After dessert, I asked Melanie to go to the living room while I cleaned up the kitchen, but the truth is that I was gaining courage to give her the surprise. After having all the dishes washed, dried and tidy, I went to the living room.
- I know maybe it's going to be a bit of a strange request, but do you think you can close your eyes? And you only open them when I say so, okay?
- Isaac, why so much secrecy?
- Come on, do that little favor to your boyfriend who loves you so much.
Without arguing with me, Melanie closed her eyes and I went to the closet drawer and took out the little black box that contained the surprise. Then, calmly, I returned to the edge of her and knelt down in front of her and opened the box, leaving the surprise facing her.
- You can open it.- I said smiling and slowly she opened her eyes.
- Isaac, is this what I'm thinking? Isaac I love you very much, but...
- Calm down, that's not exactly what you're thinking.
- Then please explain to me, because I don't understand anything anymore.
- This ring represents everything I feel for you... Everything that mere words cannot explain. It means that one day I will really ask you to marry me, because you are really the woman of my life! And this ring is very special to me, because this ring has been in our generation for a long time. It was my great-grandfather who started this Lahey family tradition. He bought this ring to give to my great grandmother, who in turn gave it to my grandfather when he met my grandmother, who in turn gave it to my father when he met my mother. Two months before my mother passed away, she came to my side and gave me this box, with this ring inside and said that one day I would give this ring to a very important person.
- Isaac I can not accept, this ring is all you have left of your mother.
- This ring, since the day it came into my hands, was meant to be yours! Because I always loved you, even when we were very young and didn't know what love meant. But more important than that, is that this ring symbolizes our future, because it is a promise, that one day I will give you an engagement ring.
- Isaac, I don't even know what to say...
-Say you accept.- I said taking the ring out of the box and carefully placing it on Melanie's finger.
- You know that my biggest wish is to build a future with you, so did you really think I would refuse? Alec, you are my future and one day, when you ask me to marry you, I will accept... With this ring, you promised me that you would propose to me, and I wearing this ring, I promise you that when that day comes, I will accept.
- I love you so much, Melanie. You know that, right?- I asked getting closer and closer to her.
- And I love you more.- Melanie stated, ending the space between the two of us.
The rest of our night was spent between talking, kissing and cuddling and that's really all it takes. With Melanie, I don't need to plan dates with a lot of pomp and circumstance, because, for her, what really matters is being together, whether in a restaurant or in our own home.
