—Drew Borden
I start walking Ally back to her house silently. It's not an awkward silence, more comfortable. I look at her and she doesn't seem nervous, but happy. She looks around at the trees and sky and she seems to love the sun and nature. Her smile can convince me to like nature.
Once we get on Ally's block, I start to really look around. I look at all the gigantic houses with four or five cars on the driveways and in the open garages. That's when I realize that we're in Golden Peaks, the richest neighborhood in the city. She lives here?
"This is me," she states, pointing to her vast house. I stand in awe at her gray stoned, house with a long and wide stoned driveway and a fountain in the middle. There is one long garden circling the house and two medium tall trees on both sides of the brown wooden door. Ally runs her bracelet past a scanner and the fence that wraps around her house opens up. We walk past the fence as it closes behind us. It takes a minute or two to walk from the fence to her front door.
"This is your house?" I ask. She nods reluctantly and opens the front door. I walk inside and am once again in awe when looking at her foyer. There's a chandelier hanging from the ceiling with a big staircase running up one side of the room. There's a gigantic living room more towards the back of the house. It has floor-to-ceiling windows and a big flat screen tv with couches surrounding it. To the right is a kitchen that is a little smaller than the living room. It has two dishwashers, one big fridge, and marble counters. This house looks like it was straight out of my dream.
Ally takes her coat and shoes off and puts them away in a tall cabinet by the front door. I do the same and she guides me to the kitchen where she goes into the fridge. I lean back on the counters and cross my arms.
"Impressive," I say and she turns to me with a smile on her face.
"Thanks, would you like anything to eat?"
"No, I'm good."
She grabs a yogurt and she leads me upstairs. Once upstairs, She walks down one of the three hallways and opens the door to a room. I walk inside and instantly look around.
There's a bed up against the wall. The only thing separating it from the floor-to-ceiling windows is a small nightstand with a lamp on it. There's a small chandelier hanging from the middle of her high ceiling. There are two double glass doors that leads to her bathroom. She has two beanbags at the foot of her bed that face towards a flat screen TV mounted into the wall. Behind the TV are christmas lights that act like vines. Her walls are a light shade of green and her floor is like wooden caramel.
Ally walks over to her bed and plops down on it. Sitting next to her, I look at some of the picture frames on her wall.
"Is that your mom," I ask, pointing to one with a younger version of Ally and a middle aged looking women with brown wavy hair and a bright smile.
"Yes," Ally responds, "That was a couple years ago though. It was her birthday. I got her that necklace." Ally points to the necklace in the photo that her mom is wearing.
I look at Ally and realize that she's wearing the same necklace that is in the photo, but it has another piece attached to it. It's a small heart with the words "Love" on the front in cursive. I smile at it before looking at Ally who's still staring at the photo. I watch as her eyes tear up and I place my hand over hers on the bed. She looks down at our hands in surprise and turns her hand. She intertwines out hands together before looking at me.
"Ally!" A voice yells, "Come here, now!"
Ally groans before shouting, "Hold on!"
Ally turns to me and says, "That's my dad. Stay right here I'll be ba-"
The door bursts open and a middle-aged man walks through the door. He looks about six feet tall and he has dark brown hair with a couple gray hairs mixed in. He glances at me before looking at Ally, fury in his eyes as he does.
"Who the hell is this and why is he in my house without permission!?" he yells.
You should never yell at a lady.
Ally stands up and walks over to him and tries to push him out the door, "C-can we t-talk in pri-"
He grabs her by her wrists so tight that her skin around his knuckles go white. She winces and tries to pull away as he says, "Don't touch me Allison Mary Christian!"
You should never hurt a lady.
I feel my knuckles tighten at the sight of this, but I promised myself that I'd only get really mad and start hurting people for one reason and one reason only.
He pushes her down on the ground and I feel anger bubble up in me, but also pain because I can't do anything. Can I?
He leans over her and points at her. "I asked you a question," he says strongly.
She tries to sit up, but he pushes her back down.
Hard.
She cries out in pain and I look away, closing my eyes tight. "Answer he damn question Ally!" he yells at her.
I stand up and I walk over to Ally's father. He sees me and stands up straight, looking me dead in the eyes.
"You never hurt nor yell at a lady," I point out. He looks at me with eyes full of hatred and I feel my knuckles tighten.
"Leave Ally alone," I order, but all he does is laugh.
"Get out of my house or I'll kick you out," he says.
"Drew stop," Ally says and tries to sit up again. Ally's father pushes her back down and looks down at her.
"I told you you can't-"
I do what I had to do before he could finish his sentence. I broke my promise, but only for Ally, and I cant believe I did it.
I punch Ally's father, hard.
I'm sorry mom.
