--Drew Borden
I sit with my hands covering my face. The only noise is my breathing and the voices in my head.
She did it because she doesn't want to be with you....
She wanted to hurt you...
She meant to hurt you...
She wants you to stay out of her business...
She gave up on you, now why don't you give up on her?
I cover my ears, trying to block out the voices as the tears run down my cheeks. They still don't stop, even after I start to pull at my hair.
You're so pathetic Drew.
You thought you could save her.
You thought you could protect her.
You tried, but you failed.
Now she's gone.
And you can't get her back.
She's never coming back to you.
Never.
There's a big clash and my head whips up. The voices stop as the detective walks into the room.
"Hello Drew, I'm detective Len," he speaks. I watch him as he walks over to me and slowly sits down into his seat. He intertwines his hands and leans against the table, looking at me intently. Before he can speak, I speak.
"Why am I here? I didn't do anything," I say cautiously.
"I don't have proof that you did anything, no, but I don't have proof that you did nothing," he says carefully. I lean back in my chair knowing I've been defeated; the handcuff connected to the table pulling on my wrist slightly. He smiles slightly and continues to speak. "So, why were you at Ally's house?"
"To get Ally," I say honestly.
"Why was Ally there in the first place?" he asks.
"The information is... blurry I guess. I don't know... I mean I know some of it, but not everything," I say, trying to think.
"We talked to Cindy and she said that she was Ally's sister. Is this true?"
"I don't know..." I fade off, not knowing what to say.
"Drew you can't just keep saying 'I don't know' when you obviously know," he says.
"I honestly don't know. Cindy told me that she was Ally's sister and that Ally drove to her house," I say, getting annoyed.
"Well what if I told you that we found Cindy's and Ally's finger prints on Ally's car. The drivers side door handle and Ally's finger prints were on the passengers side," he explains.
"Okay so?"
"So, that means that Cindy could've possibly killed Ally," he says, leaning back in his chair.
"Look, I haven't known Cindy that long, but she doesn't seem like the kind of person to do that," I say, raising my voice slightly.
"Sometimes it's not always the people you expect it to be," he says, his voice monotone.
"What are you trying to say?"
"I'm trying to say that you need to come out with the truth instead of covering up what she did."
"I'm not covering up for her! She came to my house crying and begging for my help to find Ally! She was freezing cold and her boots were covered in snow from walking to my house from Ally's appointment!" I yell, lean forward, and point at him; glaring into his eyes. "You listen to me and you listen good. She did nothing wrong."
"Where's the proof?"
"Ally has it," I deadpan.
