—Ally Christian
I sit in the darkness of my bedroom and quietly cry to myself. Am I overreacting? I didn't think I had this many feelings over a stupid boy. A stupid boy that saved me from Kate, but broke my heart. Why did I even think for one moment that he liked me? I thought he actually liked me, but I guess I was wrong. The way my entire life is wrong. I should just stop trying...
A knock on my door makes me jump, and my heart race. "Ally?" someone asks. The door knob turns and the door opens with a slow, loud creek.
"What do you want, Drew?" I ask quietly.
"What's wrong?" he asks, walking over to me after closing the door behind him. He sits in front of me on my bed, and reaches out to grab my hand, but I turn away from him. I wipe my tears and cover my eyes with my hands, taking a deep breath. Removing my hands and opening my eyes, I get blinded by light. I groan and re-cover my eyes.
"Sorry," Drew says, "I'll turn them off."
I remove my hands and open my eyes after a couple seconds, being welcomed by darkness.
"So I saw that you have a short sleeved shirt on," Drew points out. A part of my bed next to me sinks down, Drew just sat down. My eyes haven't readjusted to the dark yet.
"Yea, I got hot," I explain.
"You're always hot though," Drew jokes.
"Haha, very funny, don't come here and flirt with me after-"
"After what?"
I drop my head, saying too much. I don't want to overreact the way Kate did. "Nothing," I say. "I just want to be alone right now."
"Fine, but two questions first, please?"
I sigh, "Fine, ask away."
"Question one. Why didn't you show up to science? I saw you in the hallway earlier, but you didn't see me, so I know you were at school. Was it Kate?"
"That's two questions," I point out.
"Oh, well just answer the first one. I have a different second one."
I nod, my eyes adjusting to the dark. "I felt sick so I came home," I say. I can't tell him the truth for why I wasn't in class. I can't sound over-dramatic, because he's not mine and I'm not his...but he definitely stole my heart.
"If you're sick then why are you sitting in a dark room? Shouldn't you be laying down? Why can't I see you?" he asks.
"That's three ques-"
"Please just answer me Ally," he pleads.
I take in a deep breath and think for second before I speak. "The dark makes me feel better."
It was a horrible answer, but it's better than the truth. He shakes his head, "That's not true."
"Yeah it is," I say.
"Ally, the dark can't make someone feel better," he points out, reaching out to touch my arm. I start to pull away, but he grabs onto my arm before I can. He rubs my arm for a second before I pull it away, and he looks down at his hand. He glances at me before he jumps off of my bed, and runs to turn the lights on. I close my eyes at the bright light, but this time, it doesn't turn back off. I slightly open my eyes, and see Drew looking at his hand, then to my arm, and back again.
"Ally..." he drifts off, not finishing his sentence. I look down at my scarred arms that has dried and some fresh blood on them from earlier. I can feel Drew's gaze on me, so I look up and I let my eyes meet his. "Why?" he asks.
"I had to," I whisper so quiet that I doubt he heard me.
"Why did you have to?" he asks.
My eyes start to tear up, "Because..."
"Because what?" he calmly asks. He walks over to me, sitting down next to me, and starts to go through my backpack.
"No reason," I whisper. He pulls out my first-aid kit and grabs a cotton ball and a small bottle of alcohol. He pours the alcohol on the cotton and presses it against my wound. I sit still as my skin stings. Drew glances at me before putting the first aid kit away and throwing away the cotton ball.
He walks over to me slowly before sitting down next to me. "Why did you...cut, Ally?" he asks.
"I wasn't feeling good," I whisper, hugging myself.
He reaches out to pull me into a hug, but I move away. "What happened? Why won't you let me touch you?"
"You asked more than two questions, Drew."
"Forget what I said about the two questions. Ally I'm worried about you," he responds softly. I feel tears starting to build in my eyes. "Ally, what's wrong? Did I do something?"
"Yes," I spit out before I can take it back.
Drew looks taken aback for a moment before speaking again. "What did I do?"
"I w-went to school today," I start, not being able to stop myself, "and I saw you with a g-girl."
"Who?" he asks.
"My old f-friend," I whisper as my bottom lip starts to quiver. I bite it to make it stop, but that only makes the tears run down my cheeks. I wipe them quickly and say, "L-Lauren. I saw you t-talking to L-Lauren, s-so I l-left. I'm s-sorry I sound d-dramatic I'm not t-trying to be."
He reaches out to grab my hand, and I let him; feeling so weak that I can't move anymore. "Ally, Lauren came to me and asked me some things. We got into a conversation, but I didn't want to keep talking to her. When she started asking me stuff like 'Are you single,' I stopped talking to her for the rest of class. I was waiting for you to come. I stared at the door and the clock for what seemed like eternity. My heart was beating one hundred times per minute. All sorts of worst case scenarios were making my brain ache and my eyes burn with unshed tears. I immediately came here after school. I was worried about you."
I look at him shocked, "B-but..."
"But what?"
"Why d-do you c-care about me this m-much? I th-thought I was o-overreacting."
"Ally, I'll always care about you. Wait, how'd you say you know Lauren?"
"Old best friend," I explain. "She left me after my moms d-death so she could become popular."
"I'm sorry," I say, holding her hand. "If I knew then I wouldn't of done it."
"No, it's your life you can do whatever you want. It's not like we're dating."
Drew lifts my head up, looking into my eyes and deep into my soul. "Then how about we do date."
My cheeks heat up, and I don't know what I did to deserve this. What did I do to get this amazing guy in my life? What did I do to get someone who understands and cares about me so much? I don't know what I did, but I certainly won't go back.
"Ditto, Borden."
