Set after The Hands of Time

After reuniting with their parents, Kai and Nya always visited them every weekend. They'll either help their parents around the shop or just have a relaxing tea time with them. At this time, Nya haven't informed her parents about her relationship with Jay. After looking at Kai's overprotective habit of course Nya has her worries. She's afraid they might overreact and forced her to break up with Jay. And that can't happen of course. They've just made up they can't broke up now!

On one weekend, Kai's needed on an important mission. Thus, he can't come to the annual meeting with his parents. So Jay offered to take Nya there. Since he has nothing to do for the day and he's also trying to reconnect his once broken relationship with Nya. Although Nya's reluctant about the idea, she can't bare rejecting her boyfriend's advances and agreed.

"There's only one thing you have to remember. My life depend on it okay? You cannot mention that we're dating. I'm afraid about their response." Nya warned her boyfriend.

"Why?" Jay asked, clueless.

Nya sighed. "You know how Kai reacted to us dating. He's so overprotective. If he's like that what do you think my parent's like? If a guy that I lived with for my whole life has an overprotective nature, then what about my parents whom I just known and met?"

"Good point." Jay nodded.

"You won't spoil won't you?" Nya plea.

"Of course not." Jay smiled and conjure up his elemental dragon who flickered with multiple bolts of lightning.

Jay helped Nya up before climbing up there himself. He shakes the reins and the dragon levitated up high in the sky. Within minutes, a small blacksmith shop can be seen not so far ahead. The dragon landed on the soft grass below before disappearing into thin air. A woman with long black hair and blue kimono rushed at the two.

"Nya my dear!" Maya hugged her daughter.

"Mom!" Nya hugged back. "Kai can't come today so I brought a friend. I hope you don't mind."

"Friend?" Maya pulled away from her daughter and looked at the guy standing beside Nya. "Nya, who's this?"

"Oh that's Jay. Jay Walker. Master of Lightning." Nya nudged Jay on the arm.

"Hi Mrs. Smith." Jay waved awkwardly.

"Oh just call me Maya." Maya shakes Jay's hand. "What a sweet friend you got here Nya. Anyway come in, come in, I've got a pot of lemon tea in the stove right now." Maya ushered the two inside. Where they met Ray, Nya's father, who scanned the two visitors carefully.

"Maya, who's this?" Ray pointed at Jay.

"Oh that's Jay. One of Nya's friends. Sadly, Kai couldn't make it today." Maya walked towards the stove.

"C'mere you two." Ray ushered the pair towards the couch. There's a hint of seriousness in his voice. "So, Nya. He's your friend?"

"Yeah." Nya nodded.

"Are you sure?" Ray asked.

"Of course I'm sure. Why wouldn't I be?" Nya asked back.

"Cause I have a feeling you two are MORE than friends." Ray glanced at Jay who's fiddling with his shirt cuffs, unable to look at Ray in the eye.

"Wh-what?? No way! That's too crazy." Nya laughed to herself.

"Well okay then." Ray stood up. "Can you help me with some swords later?" Ray asked his daughter.

"Sure."

"Good. Thank you Nya." Ray walked towards his forge.

"No problem dad!" Nya forced a fake smile before breathing out in relief. "Phew. That was close. Do you want to stay or do you want to go back and play video games?" Nya asked her boyfriend.

"I don't mind staying. I can help you with those swords. I have some tinkering ability too remember?" Jay offered.

"Thank you Jay. That's why I love you!" Nya hugged Jay's arm tightly.

"What's that?" Ray's voice rang out.

"I said I love y-" Nya stopped mid-way as she realised her voice is too loud. "Dang it." Nya released her hug and tried to distract herself by brushing her skirt.

"What's that I hear?" Ray repeated.

"Nothing dad. You hear absolutely nothing. Really." Nya laughed to herself. "Nothing."

"You know very well I heard you right?" Ray approached his daughter, hands on his hips.

Nya gulped. Kai did the same thing when he knew Nya fell for Jay and when she make advances towards him! Nya's face is pale and filled with cold sweat. Her heart's racing and so does her mind as she rapidly search for excuses. She felt Jay's fingers entwine around her's. She can feel the fear Jay feels right now. From his clammy and trembling hands gave so much clue about it.

"Ray don't go too harsh on 'em. They're still kids!" Maya rushed towards Ray.

"I know Maya. That's why." Ray replied.

"Don't you remember when we're still kids like them? When you first visited my parents? They gave both of us a rough experience right?" Maya tried her best to calm Ray down.

Ray gulped. "Of course. Your father was a killer." Ray shivered.

"That's why. Please don't make those two suffer. Besides, young love is cute ain't it? You wouldn't dare hurt them like my father did to us right?"

"Uh...well...as a father the thing I should do is-"

"RIGHT?" Maya repeated with a stricter tone.

"Alright, alright. I'll let them slip. As long as Jay didn't hurt Nya or do something crazy together I'd say it's fine." Ray returned towards his sword making activity.

Jay sigh a sigh of relief. "Thank you Maya. If you don't mind me asking, what did your father do to you and Ray?"

"He sort of ground me and not let me talk to Ray for like a year I think? Maybe more. It was pretty bad until Ray proved to him that he's worthy of me. It's a rough time back then." Maya sighed. "Forced to abandoned your boyfriend, listen to boring lectures at least an hour a day, sigh. Luckily things eased up for us." Maya sighed and poured them both hot cups of tea.

"So that's where Kai get his nature from." Nya laughed.

"Yeah. It's been going for two generations before him! Maybe even more!" Jay laughed.

"Don't tell me Kai's like his father." Maya looked at the two.

"You heard us mom." Nya giggled.

"Called it. By the way Nya can you bring Jay over too next week? It's quite fun having him over." Maya smiled.

"Sure. If Jay doesn't mind of course." Nya glanced at Jay.

"I don't mind coming." Jay smiled.

"Thank you Jay! You're so sweet." Nya hugged him.

"Not as sweet as you are water lily." Jay hugged him back.

"Oh shut it zap trap. You know there's no one sweeter than you are."

"Hey, only Cole gets to use that."

"What will I call you then?"Nya pulled back from the hug.

"Your boyfriend." Jay grabbed the back of Nya's head and pull her in for a passionate kiss. Not even realising Maya's still there.

"Gosh my daughter's so big." Maya wiped the tear on her face. "This is too cute! I'm out!"
