A few hours earlier.
Ellie spent the majority of her time mauling over that night Kian came over.
She was so confused by his actions and his words.
It was like he was saying something, but his body was relaying a different message. In all of that, she was so overwhelmed by the feeling of finally being around him again that she didn't even hesitate to dwell on the matter.
Now that his cologne and arms no longer waft around her, she could now clearly think and something about that night was off.
Seriously off.
The more she thought of it, the more distressed she became.
Ellie knew that they had more to talk about. She and Kian had so many issues they had to work through before they can even resume their relationship.
Assuming that Kian even wanted to be in a relationship with her again. She thought he did, but after that night she wasn't sure. She was starting to feel like she was the only willing participant.
She tried reaching out to him to get some sort of closure on what they were, but Kian had gone right back to ignoring her. This did not aid in taking away the sickly feeling she had in her stomach since that morning after when she woke up to a cold bed.
Was he using her?
She would hate to be his bed warmer. That was something she always feared of being.
After a day of trying to contact Kian, she was starting to get more agitated than worried. What was his issue now?
He couldn't have been mad at her. She believed that her reaction to everything was justifiable. Yet, she was the one calling and trying to get in contact with him and not the other way around.
Since he wanted to play games with Ellie, she decided to play one of her own. So, she went ahead and called Evan.
She schedule a training session and was thrilled when Evan said that he was free right now if she wanted to pass by.
It was after 7 in the evening and Ellie hated working out late because she found herself more tired than usual, but she took the bait.
She would prefer to be busy and physically tired than sit home wallowing over why Kian was playing the deadliest game with her and become mentally exhausted.
So clad in all black with her hair pulled back swinging loosely in a ponytail, Ellie got a Lyft to the gym.
She thought it would be awkward between her and Evan after their last encounter, but surprisingly everything was the same.
And, believe it or not, she didn't know how badly she needed that.
With Kian acting the fool, her friends/sisters still distant, and her brother away, having someone who was still interested in being around her was refreshing.
Evan had given her boxing gloves, something she hated, and asked her to box for a while. So, she station herself in front of the bag raising her hands before she went at it.
Soon, she was moving rhythmically and her mind begin to do exactly what she was trying not to do.
Think.
She thought about the last few months. The attack in the car parking lot, the one at the club, and then the shoot-out.
Ellie wanted to feel relieved that all of those attacks were finally resolved because Kian had put an end to Carlos, but somehow she still felt like something else was lurking around the corner.
