They were now back in New York and far away from Paris, France, but Ellie couldn't help but replay the last day they were there over and over in her head.

She couldn't help herself.

That was the excuse she had concluded with.

She only was being playful with Kian, she wasn't expecting anything to happen from that especially not her coming in his mouth uncontrollably.

She groaned as the girls went on talking unaware of her inner turmoil.

The last day of them being in Paris consisted of them going out to eat breakfast one more time and awkwardly taking a boat tour that she had booked the day before.

What they did that morning had put them back tremendously in the deal department.

The tension between them before that morning was already high, now it was nuclear and she didn't know when it would all just blow up in her face.

It was a vicious game she was playing at.

That morning wasn't just them connecting physically and that was something Ellie was scared of realizing.

The way Kian looked at her, touched her. It was like he was seeing something so rare and beautiful that he was cherishing her.

Even when she had come and thought that he would try to make a move on her, Kian just came up beside her and wrapped her in his arms.

Ellie wasn't expecting that at all.

Not from Mr. Bad Boss.

To feel his warmth pressed against her and his fingers slowly rubbing circles on her stomach as if to lull her back to sleep.

The moment was so intimate and peaceful that Ellie never wanted it to end.

This was how she knew she was f**king up.

She was starting to fall for him and that was the worst thing for her to succumb to.

Kian had stated that he didn't want a relationship with her and that flared up in her head like a flashing billboard as soon as she closed her eyes to his touch.

That no matter what she tried to get from him, he will never give her what she wants.

He would never trust her and she could never fully trust him. There were too many missing pieces to him. Too many things about him lurked in the shadow.

On their last evening, they went on a little boat to cruise the Bateaux-Mouches. Ellie had tried to ease the awkwardness of that day by talking about random things like her life back in Texas.

She tried to tell him about her first job there and more about her friends. Ellie believed that it would lessen the uncomfortableness. The joy that flashed through her to see Kian begin to relax to her chattering was rewarding. She became even more winded with gratification when he started to speak about his brothers.

She found out that he had one more who was younger than the two she had met. He was still mum about his mother and she can tell that he loved his father.

Ellie was just happy that she was getting just about anything from him.

She thought maybe it could've worked during that time, but a few more minutes into the ride, things went left.

She should have known it would.

"How was the meeting today?"

The question confused Kian because there wasn't a meeting today. At least not anything pertaining to Lancaster and Co.
