I had sent Gahyeon what felt like a million texts, the latest one telling her to meet me in the library at lunch. But I got zero replies. I really desperately wanted to talk about yesterday. About what happened. Well, almost happened. I felt like now that I unlocked the knowledge that I like like her, I can't really hold it in anymore. All I wanted was to talk about yesterday, to tell her how I feel.
Worriedly I waited between the bookshelves of the library, softly tapping my foot against the floor, spinning by phone in my hand, hoping that it would vibrate or give any indication of a reply. It stayed quiet though and Gahyeon was nowhere to be seen.
I waited a couple more minutes, trying to be patient, hoping for Gahyeon. When I still didn't get any reply I gave up and made my way to the cafeteria, defeated. Instead I found my friends sitting at their usual table, already animatedly discussing something.
"Have you seen the posters?" Yoohyeon asked, trying to keep her voice as hushed as possible.
"I can't believe it. This bitch is really running for student council president." Sua said in disbelief, not even trying to be quiet. "Like who would ever vote for her?"
"Who are you talking about?" I asked while I sat down beside them and dug into my food.
"Handong." Sua scoffed annoyed. "I can't with her anymore. Honestly. The audacity."
"Don't you think a lot of people would vote for her out of fear?" Yoohyeon wondered. "I've already seen Jiu and Sihyeon talk to a bunch of people in the halls today and all of them seemed more scared than anything else."
"I suppose." Sua nodded. "That doesn't make it right though. The student body deserves a president that actually has their best interest in mind and that actually wants to represent them, not this. Whatever this is."
I let my sight wander to Handongs table. If she really was running for president, a lot of stuff would get a lot worse. I don't even want to imagine her winning that election.
I spotted Handong discussing something with Siyeon, whose face was as grim and stern, maybe a bit more than usual. Jiu was standing nearby, seemingly flirting with some freshman, occasionally nodding her head towards Handong or glancing in Gahyeons direction. Gayheon herself was sitting at the table, poking her food absentmindedly, with a dude's arm around her shoulders. He seemed to be whispering something into her ear, but she didn't show any reaction.
A sudden sting spread in my chest, like my rib cage was closing in. Still I offered Gahyeon a small wave, hoping to gain her attention. She looked up from her food, making our eyes meet, but gave no reaction. No wave back or even a smile. Just a stoic face, almost blank.
I could feel my heart sink even more. What is going on? Is she ignoring me? Did I do something wrong? Did I misinterpret the whole thing?
"Who is that guy?" I spoke up, effectively interrupting Suas and Yoohs conversation. I nodded my head towards Handongs table.
"Which one? The ones that Jiu is flirting up a storm with or the one courting your girlfriend?" Sua questioned, while Yoohyeon just gritted her teeth and glared in their direction.
"Wait! Girlfriend?" Yoohyeon shook herself out of her glaring.
"Uh Huh. These two kissed yesterday. Well almost kissed." Sua vaguely pointed towards mw and then in Gahyeons direction. She really wasted no time in ratting me out.
"They WHAT? You WHAT?" Yoohyeon scowled at me in disbelief. "What the hell! Why do you never tell me things? I swear you love Sua more than me! She always knows what'S going on and here I thought I was your best friend!"
