Nine

Dami PoV

As soon as we arrived at Yooh's place, her mom ran up to us and embraced us in the tightest hug ever (so that is where Yooh has that from!). I realized she must have waited for us all night, not that it was that late or anything, but still. I considered this a huge gesture. Actually it's almost funny how different her reaction is to what my parents probably would have reacted like. I could imagine them freaking out. Or just yelling at me. Or not even caring at all. Or not even realizing I was gone (like right they are right now). Since I had never been to a party I couldn't really judge, but I imagined it to be pretty much the same as when I went to the library or the pet shelter and forgot about the time, coming home late. Usually they wouldn't even look up from what they were doing. In some rare cases I came home just when they were fighting and got yelled at as well.

But Yooh's mom was different from my parents. Unlike them she actually cared about her child and her not so much child. I feel a lot more at home than I had ever before. Somehow this is making me feel safe for once. Like a place I could actually like coming home to. I was happy to be home.

"Oh god. You are finally home. I was so worried." she pulled us in even tighter, if that was possible.

"Please mom, not that tight! You're suffocating us!" Yoohyeon complained, but her soft tone clearly showed how relieved she was and how much she was actually enjoying this hug.

"Fine. Fine. The last thing I want is to kill you, now that you made it home safely." her mom chuckled, releasing us from her tight hold on us.

I breathed in, now that I was finally able to again.

"Tell me everything that happened tonight." Yooh's mom squealed.

"Everything?"

"Everything!" the shine in her eyes getting stronger by every second.

"Maybe tomorrow." Yoohyeon yawned, leaving her excited mom hanging, as cruel as she was.

"Yoo is probably right. We should go to bed." I yawned as well. Today really was a lot. "Thank you for waiting on us." I bowed.

"Ugh, sure. Go to bed in peace and keep me waiting with the details. You are really evil, you know that? Have a good night anyway. I need you two well rested to tell me everything tomorrow then." she dismissively waved her hand at us, signaling us to go.

I couldn't stop laughing about how she acted. Like her daughter just betrayed her in the worst way possible.

"Night!" Yoohyeon yelled, grabbing my shoulder and shoving me towards her room. Her mom had set up a mattress in Yoo's room while we were away, giving me a place to sleep.

Yoo let herself fall backward onto her own bed, carefully stepping past the mattress. Then she propped herself up on her elbows, looking at me expectantly.

"What happened back there?" she asked softly, not really elaborating on her question. I knew what she meant anyway. The party, Gahyeons room ...

The question made me revise what had happened today. This morning at school, Handong being her evil self, meeting Sua and then going to the party. Usually my days looked all the same: school, library, escaping home, sleeping, repeat. But today was so different from all the other days, I was overwhelmed by everything that happened.

But no matter how much I tried to think about what had happened today, my thoughts always went back to Gahyeons room. To my encounter with her today. I don't know what I had expected, or whom I expected that room to belong to, somehow she caught me off guard today. I really never thought she would be the reading and learning kind of type. I don't know why I thought that of her. It's not like I know her, or even realized she was here, before she walked into school the first day this semester with Handong and her gang. Was she there before? Maybe I just never paid attention to her before? It really made me wonder how blind I am to my surroundings sometimes. Still my prejudices about her were wrong, I shouldn't have had them to begin with. She is just so different from what I had thought of her ...
