Two weeks later, life was harder than ever. Food got really expensive this year because all the harvest in town burned down because of fire. Most of the farms in the area closed down because all their harvest was gone and they had nothing to sell or give. It was only the last couple of farms and the South Indian Trading Company that had food available for everyone. Most of the people had to close down their markets and stores because they had no money for rent or food and many people went homeless. That was what you thought would happen with you too. The raise in taxes and no sales has brought you to a crisis where you were about to go homeless. The soldiers of the army in California came earlier to you that day and took away your flower shop because you had no money to pay for your house. So you gathered a couple of belongings with you and decided to look around town for a solution to your problem. And luckily, you found it.

"Owww!"

You yelped as you bumped into someone.

"Oh my goodness! I'm so sorry! Please, let me help you."

A voice said as you looked up, to be surprised with a familiar face. It was the blonde - brown haired guy that you saw peeking at your sister and Gonzalez! You knelt down to pick up some of your belongings you dropped when you bumped into him. Both you and the mysterious guy put your things back into your bag, standing up to have normal talk now.

"My name is Don Diego Vega."

The guy announced to you.

"And what is yours?"

You paused for a moment and then answered.

"Y/N L/N."

He smiled and nodded.

"Well then, Y/N. Where are you heading? I heard you're Sella's sister.... Where's Sella then?"

You frowned and answered his question.

"The government took away my flower shop because I couldn't pay taxes, and Sella went to England. So, I'm very lonely and I have no where to go now...."

He looked at you concerned and then smiled.

"Hey! Why don't you go and stay at my house till we find you a place to stay at. It's big and pretty. You'll like it there. Come on!"

He said as he grabbed your wrist. But you didn't budge and just stayed where you are.

"Sorry. I didn't mean to make you feel obliged to do something for me. I should go."

You finished, trying to turn around and leave. But he held your wrist tight, not letting you go.

"It's okay. It's not your fault. Trust me, my family has a big house and it won't be a problem keeping you there for some time."

He reassured. You thought about it and reluctantly gave in, following him to his place. You had no where to go anyway. You arrived to see a giant mansion with gardens around it and a cobblestone pathway in the middle of it all with a fountain. It was indeed beautiful. But what surprised you more was that you entered through a side door that led you in the kitchen, full of small kids! And not only kids. There was also an older woman in the kitchen with a younger lady too. The older woman was chubby and wore a greenish shirt with a white apron, her hair was in a bun. The younger girl had whitish blonde hair with a green dress and green flat shoes. When you walked in the women payed no attention to you two, until Diego called them.

"Lalita! Maria! I brought in a guest over here!"

He joyfully said. The girls turned around to see you. The older one came up to you and asked for your name, first.

"My name is Y/N, L/N."

Both of the girls went into shock.

"So, you are Sella's sister?"

The younger girl asked.

"Yeah."

You answered and proceeded to set your things on the ground instead of carrying them.

"My name is Lalita, and this is Maria."

The younger girl said swishing her hair.

"And so. What did you bring her here for, Diego?"

Lalita asked with a pissed look. He nervously sweat and swished his head.

"N - no, Lalita. Don't get the wrong idea..... She lost her flower shop due to inflation and has no where to go. We accidentally met each other on the street, and I asked if she needed help. So, I decided to bring her here and let her stay at my house."

The girl backed off and walked away to care for the kids by the table while Maria looked with worry at Diego.

"Diego, what about your father? Are you sure he approves?"

Diego rubbed his neck and answered.

"Not to worry Maria. I'm sure my father wouldn't mind helping her. So, why don't you show her around and give her a free room upstairs?"

Maria nodded her head and proceeded to the door, changing her apron and washing her hands.

"Now, why don't you follow me, Y/N?"

She called as you took your things in hand and went after her.

She brought you upstairs and showed you a free room, not occupied by anybody. You paused at the entrance of the room and asked.

"Is it really okay to call you, just Maria?"

She nodded and smiled at you, helping with bringing your things into your room.

"Settle in, feel like home. I'll go and tell the rest of us to not bother you. Clean clothes are in the closet, and the door on the other side of the room, by the window, is the bathroom. Call me if you need anything."

You smiled and waved her off. She closed the door and left you alone in the room. The room had white walls and ceiling, brown closet and a hardwood bed with other natural wood - made pieces of furniture. The floor was also made of wood and there were two big windows and a lamp on the stationary table next to you. You fell on your bed and shuffled in the white sheets wondering what to do next. But first. You needed to get some rest first, since you didn't know for how long you would be allowed to stay here.
