"What a beautiful day to be outside."
You thought. You were sitting on the lush green grass by Lalita and Diego, while Bernard was running around with Tekle and Figaro. (Tekle is Diego's dog and Figaro is Bernard's puggle) You were out of town for a picnic. It was near a dark and gloomy forest that everyone was afraid of, but you never knew why. The sunshine gently nuzzled your face while you fell back on the grass and closed your eyes to relax. You put your hands behind your head and smiled while breathing in the scent of flowers near the riverbank.
"It's a beautiful day to be outside."
You heard Diego say as though he read your mind. You couldn't help but chuckle to yourself at the coincidence.
"See? I told you guys that it was a perfect day for a picnic."
Lalita confirmed with a bold sway of her hand. The slow and warm breeze around you gave you the impression you wished could've lasted forever.
"It's so refreshing to sometimes lay around without a single care in the world and just daydream."
Diego sighed and looked into the sky.
"Like though you do something else than that all day."
You whispered to yourself. You wished no one heard your comment but they did. Diego started whining about what you said, and Lalita looked at you surprised. She didn't expect you to all of a sudden act so teasingly towards Diego. You kept your eyes closed the entire time and took deep breaths of the fresh air around you. After a moment of thought, you got up, looked at the forest on the far-left side of the field, and asked.
"Why are people scared of this forest so much? To me, it seems like any normal forest that you can find anywhere else."
Lalita and Diego looked at you in shock.
"You don't know why?"
Lalita asked, surprised.
"No. I and my sister had really busy lives. We didn't have time to waste on stupid rumors and fairy tales that were going around town."
Lalita and Diego looked at each other and reluctantly decided to tell you about the forest.
"Anyways, you shouldn't go there because it's the forest of vampires." "Vampires?"
You asked again. You couldn't believe that people believed in this sort of stuff. Although who knows? Maybe vampires do exist.
"Yeah, people say that vampires lived in this forest for thousands of years! Everyone who ever went inside this forest never came back."
Lalita added. You lay quietly on the grass and stayed put until Lalita went to the small river to wash her feet there. Well, technically she was just playing in the water.
"Guys, you should go in the water. It's so cool and refreshing."
She squeezed the extra water out of her dress's edges and stepped on the warm grass. You turned to your other side and face planted in the ground. Laying in the sunshine on some warm grass sounded like the best thing to do right now.
"By the way, have you guys seen where Bernard went?"
Lalita asked when she dropped next to you on the ground.
"NO idea."
You whispered while lying on your face and covering your head with your hands. Lalita turned to Diego, and he simply shrugged. She sighed and swayed her head in dismay.
"You guys act like a couple honestly."
The two of you looked at each other and closed your eyes. You didn't bother correcting her. Too much work. But that's when you heard a dog barking from the direction of the vampire forest. You lifted your head and saw Figaro running towards the three of you and barking about something. You knew that Figaro is a smart dog, and he wouldn't be barking about nothing. Figaro quickly turned around and ran back into the forest. You stood up and ran after him. You entered the forest, and it was dark at first. But then, everything came to light, and the thick forestry turned into a big open field with a huge rock tower. A waterfall also started in the middle of it which you guessed was the reason that the river you were by before, existed. You followed Figaro down the waterfall edge and into a small field area. In that area, you saw Bernard sitting on the ground, with an unnaturally looking foot. You quickly went down the rocky edge and kneeled to Bernard's height.
