A week went by after the last time you talked to Placido. After your last encounter with Placido, the two of you got into a fight and left Abarne's tea shop as enemies now. Your feelings for Diego were starting to slowly rot away and you barely had the willpower to even stand next to him. You knew that it wasn't Diego's fault for not liking you back, but it hurts. It hurts when your feelings aren't mutual with the other person. You, Maria, Diego, and Lalita were working in the fields one day when a horse came galloping by the fields with a child barely holding on to it. It was a boy. He looked very tired and sad as he fell off the horse, unconscious. You dropped everything you were holding and ran out to the midway of the field where the horse stopped and lifted the boy onto your lap. His eyes fluttered open, and the warm-blushing boy gritted his teeth as tears were threatening to leave his eyes.

"Are you okay? Did you hurt something?"

Lalita asked as she dropped next to you on her knees to inspect the boy you were holding.  He didn't say a word as his lips were softly trembling at the feel of your hands cradling him. The boy looked to be about Bernard's age.

"Bernard, do you know him?"

You asked the redhead who just arrived at the scene.

"Yeah, I know him. He's from the mountainous town nearby."

That was already a good sign. That means your conversation can start at least somewhere. You tilted his head back and let him lay in your hands as you carefully managed him.

"What happened here?"

You heard Diego run closer to see the boy you were holding gently.

"My father."

He started slowly.

"He got into some trouble."

You looked him in the eye with a serious face and helped him sit up while rubbing his back.

"Tell us, what happened to your father?" "Where is he?"

Both Lalita and Diego started questioning him while you turned towards them and shut them up to let the boy speak.

"Be quiet when a person speaks. He's hurt you know."

You shushed them, taking them by surprise.

"A landslide occurred. He was in the mines up the mountain and now he can't get out."

As he said that, the four of you agreed to go and find his father. Lalita sat by the reins of the carriage she came here by and opened the door for you and the boy. The two of you got in and he lay on your lap while you covered his eyes with your hand, trying to make him go to sleep and relax. Bernard also got in and sat in front of you two. Lalita started the carriage once you got in and Diego rode the boy's horse. You didn't say anything on the way up the mountain to the mines. Bernard was the one doing all the talking with the boy. On your way, you figured out his name was, "Jack," and that he lived with his parents in the mountainous town nearby for the entirety of his life. When you arrived and got out, some of the town citizens were already working on clearing out the way for the miners. All of you found something to do and started working on clearing out the way. Soon, only one big stone was left in the entrance, but no matter how hard you hit it, it didn't budge. You, Lalita, Diego, and another man were working on the main rock at the entrance and couldn't get it to move at all.

"This rock doesn't want to budge, does it?"

You wondered to yourself out loud as you set your pickaxe down and wiped the sweat from your forehead.

"If this keeps on going like this, we won't be able to reach them in time."

Diego muttered to himself while resting as well.
