You were sitting in Lalita's garden on a chair, eating lunch with Lalita, Diego and Bernard. It was a beautiful, sunny day and it was very refreshing to eat something outside during such good weather. And just as though Diego was reading your mind, he said the same thing.
"It's always so refreshing to eat outside during such good weather, in the fresh air......"
You looked down from the sky and nodded.
"I agree."
Lalita looked at the two of you and smirked.
"What?"
You asked her. She looked at you in a very mischievous way and turned her head sideways.
"Nothing. It's just that you and Diego agree a little too much on everything lately."
You looked at each other and wondered.
"We do?"
Lalita stared at you blankly and went back to what she was saying earlier.
"Anyways, you liked the food, right? Because I was the one who made it."
The three of you looked at each other and were too shocked to say anything.
"What? Did it taste bad?"
The guys did their best to act like it was the best food they tasted in their lives, but Lalita saw right through them.
"So, you don't like how I cook huh? Well. Then that means you won't get any dessert."
The boys looked at each other and tried to soften her down, but she refused to listen.
"Well, I may probably not offer fruits to you. It's not that I don't want to share or anything, but it's just that the prices for fresh fruits and veggies have risen up so high lately. It's strange that anyone buys them at all. Their prices doubled since last year."
You actually agreed on that. So many farmers have lost their harvest and aren't able to sell anything. Most farmers lost everything due to bad weather and bandits. The only ones who are able to sell anything related to fresh fruits and vegetables is the South Indian Trading Company. And that is why the prices on fruits and vegetables are so high.
"Well, I guess since we don't have any fruits, then we won't be having any dessert."
Bernard sighed. Lalita looked at him with a challenging face, as though to question his thoughts and perspectives.
"So, you think that just because there are no fruits, there is no dessert? You think that I can't bake? Oh well."
She sighed and pulled out a tray of chocolate tarts. Bernard got so overjoyed when he saw the chocolate tarts that he jumped up from his chair and ran towards Lalita, trying to reach for them. She pulled away and mocked him.
"So, who said that I was a bad cooker?"
Bernard pulled back and begged.
"I'm so sorry Lalita. I didn't mean it! You're an amazing cook! Please, let me have at least one little bite! One tart please!"
Lalita chuckled and agreed. You and Diego sat in the corner and softly laughed at the scene while Don Carlos walked by and mockingly looked at Bernard's behavior. Later that day, Lalita's parents sent Lalita to buy groceries, and she took the three of you with her. In the streets of San Tasco, you couldn't see a single kiosk with fresh veggies or fruits except for the one that belonged to the South Indian Trading Company.
"The fruits are so expensive."
You wondered as you looked through the window into the South Indian Trading Company kiosk that looked extremely extravagant for just a normal kiosk.
